I'm not exaggerating when I say that this wasn't just the best BBQ experience of my life but the best dining experience at a restaurant that I have ever had. My family and I were on a road trip from CA to LO and happened upon Doc's BBQ in Croquett, TX. We were delighted by the quality of the food, but what made Doc's truly unique was the service. The staff was genuinely concerned about my interests and desires. They basically were trying to help me customize the order to fit my families needs. This included genuinely listening. After this, the owner of the resteraunt, Jeremiah, came over and engaged us in conversation for about a half hour while we ate. He genuinely listened and cared about us and shared part of his story. He also gave me a free copy of his book "Jesus and Barbeque," which was full of his own personal wisdom and experiences from running a successful business based on God's principles, values, and even recipies. Would give them 10 stars if I could, and I will find a way to go...
Read moreI rated this in the middle because of inconsistency, and cleanliness. One time I got great ribs. The next time they were so dried out that jerky would have been easier to eat. They were awful! They were inedible. They used to have nice, big baked potatoes. The last 3 times my daughter got one, they were the size that you would use as a side dish, not as a meal. Very disappointing. Also, I'm beginning to get wary of their cleanliness. The last 2 times we went, there was dried up food all over the cutting board and knife that had clearly been left after the last person they served. We had been sitting in front of the building for a good 5-7 minutes before I went in. There's no telling how long that food had been left on the work area. This is Texas. Do you know how many flies there are?! Also, there's a legitimate fear of salmonella if surfaces aren't being cleaned in a timely manner. I'm definitely disappointed, and may have to just take our...
Read moreI ventured into Crocket on way to Nacogdoches and decided to try some bbq at a couple places. I am from Austin and know good bbq when I see it as we have some heavy hitters on Texas Monthly top 50 BBQ in Texas. This place should be in the mix. This unassuming place attached to a gas station didn’t look like much but man the bbq was good.
Some may say it was smoked too long and got too tender without that bite but I like my moist brisket to melt in my mouth with smoke and pepper flavors and this did not disappoint. You don’t even need bbq sauce. Fantastic. I also had chicken which was moist and flavorful. I did not try sides or dessert but people say good. If it’s anything like the 2 meats I tried, you will be in...
