Food: Very high quality, unique, not the same as many chinese resturants out there. The food here is steps above quality wise of most places. I've had chinese all over the place and its rare to find something of this caliber. I can only really think of 1 other place i've had that was of similar caliber but Hong's still takes the cake for me. Depth of flavor profiles is incredible in their sauces, you can taste all the diffeeent layers of what makes the sauce what its supposed to be. It's not some one dimensional, this is supposed to be General tso type of thing. Idk if they make it home made or what, but all their sauces are so good.. The quality of the meat is excellent. The breading on chicken is crisp leading to a a perfectly tender and juciy piece of chicken inside. No such thing as a dried out, overly breaded, meats here. Or that common" heavily sauced and it is supposed to be chicken" style everyone has had. That type of chines isnt even really bad, its jiust really average and forgetable. it can be bad, but usually its just ok at best. Hongs is leagues above that.
Staff: The people here are so warm and nice. They legitimately seem happy to feed you and it shows. They are very kind here, even when ordering a carry out 15 minutes before closing, they have the same pleasantness as any other time.
Cost to value/ quality: The prices here in 2025 are actually a great bargain. This isnt cheap food, its great food at a great price. I hope they continue to offer their menu with the same quality of food at a rock solid price. I feel like for how good the food is and the quality of it the price is actually insanely good. Its as inexpensive if not more as your average chinese place but the quality is far above. I hope they wont, but I think they could absolutely charge another 10- 20% and it would still be a great deal.
Hong's is one of a kind and Crookston is very lucky to have a place of this caliber. You can hardly find this in the twin cities or any place around, let alone a smaller size community like crookston. Its awesome. I always get Hong's when im in...
Read moreWe ended up here late one evening and they made us what we wanted fresh from their evening buffet. The look of the food didn't look very fresh, but I think it was some of their sauces that I was not used too seeing. Their Chinese noodles looked very dried out but it tasted really good. I was surprised how their wontons were. I am used to savory but theirs was slightly sweet. We ended up there about 7:15 pm. They had very friendly staff and willing to make stuff fresh for us so I would definitely go back, but next I hope it's earlier in the day rather than almost...
Read moreStopped in for the first time and it was worth the drive over from Grand Forks. The buffet is small, but it makes up for it in the freshness and flavor. Nothing on the buffet was oily like the ones in Grand Forks. All the food had its own distinctive taste. The vegetarian noodles was my favorite, not to sweet and cravable. The service was terrific, the lady so friendly and she kept the food flowing. The restaurant is small and very clean. It's moderately priced, menu or buffet. When I'm ready for Chinese again, this is where I'll go. ...
