Good in many ways but room for improvement.
We are Cumberland long time residences and as most know Cumberland House is the reigning king of our area. We have been disenchanted with Cumberland House for a long while and we were excited to see a new challenger to the area. On our first order we were extremely impressed. We ordered two Sea Food Platters and one Chicken Finger Dinner. Once delivered, we inspected and were a bit confused. The Chicken Finger Dinner, given a choice, we opted for the side salad. We did not see anything, so we called, since we believed that they must have forgot to add it to our order. They told us to look under the fries. And there behold, under the warm fries was not a salad but a small amount of warm coleslaw. Okay, a bit of a mix up but my son loves coleslaw anyway, preferably cool, not warm but either way, it was good. Note: The Chicken Finger Dinner was a very generous portion lots and lots of delicious fries and almost pound per pound was as many chicken fingers, easily three meals worth. With that I had the WOW factor. Our Sea Food Platters: Both had a lot of delicious fries and warm coleslaw hidden beneath. The fish was delicious, not too breaded, cooked to perfection. The calamari were a bit blah in taste but tender, the fried shrimp, very generous in the amount but bland, the fried clams almost not existent, small and a bit over cooked. But either way I was sold and wanted to give them a raving review. My husband wisely advised me to wait. He said, “Lets order from them again and see if they are as good, if not better the second time”. So, we put them to the test and ordered this past Friday night. This time around we ordered: One - Chicken (crispy) salad for my son. What we received: Beautiful fresh salad Note: They designed their salads with the added vegetables grouped together, not mixed. Sectioned off lay about a ½ cups worth of black hole olives, ½ cups of cut tomatoes, ½ cup of banana peppers, thick cut cucumbers, green peppers, plenty of chicken fingers and everything was very fresh. Score: I give them an A++ on the salad.
One - Fish and Chips. What we received: Two large pieces of overcooked fish and a boat load of soggy fries with warm coleslaw tucked underneath. Score: This time around their fish went from an A+ to a B- The fries dropped from A to a C One - Calamari (confirming that it would come with a sauce and peppers since it did not come with anything with the Sea Food Platter that we ordered the previous week). What we received: Lots of calamari that were tender but again very bland. Included was lots of banana peppers scattered among the calamari. With it came a small container of tasteless marinara. Score: This time around the Calamari (excluding the marinara) remains the same at a B The fries a C One - Fried Clam Strips – I love fried clams, so I was hopeful to get more with better results this time. What we received: A full container of soggy fries with just a few tiny, over cooked pieces of clams scattered over the top. Score: A solid F They were uneatable. Note: Not like Cumberland House, this place does not skimp on fries, chicken, fish or calamari. I am guessing the weight of the fries, from the two meals, at around two pounds. Do not get me wrong, I love fries, when cooked well. But the number of fries they give per order is mind boggling and sadly most will...
Read moreI moved to Cumberland about 6 months ago. I order out frequently especially on the weekend. I received a menu in my mail box and order a pizza one night. Pizza was a solid 6-7 which for a foody and classically trained chef (not what I do) like myself is a pretty good rating for pizza in Cumberland and not made a 5 star establishment. My kids got the chicken finger dinner. They liked it! I have ordered rom here pretty consistently 1x week and 1-2 times on the weekend. That make me 2-3 time a week customer (which im sure they can see in their Computer system) for a non-chain privately owned restaurant/pizza place. I spend all week bending and breaking my back for my customers. I also own a small business, and understand completely the ins-outs and ups-downs so I am all to familiar with the pains of customer service, however tonight was a disgusting display of a man who does not valve the people that make his $ucce$$ful Tonight I called and ordered for my kids the chix finger dinner and the steak tip dinner. On the menu the steak tip dinner say "available with rice" under steak tip dinner. I got the order from the deliver girl, tipped the driver 10% opened the food and saw that both dinners came with fries. No biggie was not mad at all i know it is Friday night $ hit happens. I called them back and nicely told the gentleman who answered the phone that I had just received my order and it was wrong...he asked me what was wrong i stated they had sent fries instead of rice. The young man on the phone asked me if i ordered rice i said no it says on menu it comes with rice...he apologized and asked me if i just wanted the rice or if i would perfer the meal made again. I asked him if he could make the meal over if he didn't mind seeing how the steak would have been cold by the time the rice got here. I thought that was a great way to handle the situation and was pleasantly surprised they didn't just offer to send rice lol. ( which i told him i would have been fine with). He put me on hold and some short time later a man (with an accent) got on the phone and started right in with "the steak tip dinner comes with fries"! He didn't greet me or tell me he was a manger or owner he just barked at me that the meal doesn't come with rice.! His tone led my cold reaction "excuse me sir, the menu says rice!" He said "NO IT doesn't" ! It clearly says AVAILABLE WITH RICE? ?!!! I'm confused at this point, I'm not sure where any logical person could know that the steak tip dinner ( that is clearly written available with rice ) would know to expect they would receive French fries. Call me a crazy Karen like my kids, but no mention of fries... just rice... and he is insistent that I would have had to SPECIFY that I wanted rice. In what world does steak tips available with rice mean steak tips with French fies? I told him after going back and fourth a few more times ....trying to be logical here..... that I was new to the area and had order from him ALOT and that he just lost a customer for what $1.50 worth of rice. His response was "fine" and then I...
Read moreThis was my first time trying their pizza and it was one of the most delicious pizzas I ever had. I got the Lasagna pizza in an X-Large, because I was fearful the medium would be too small; it was well than enough for me. The size of the X-Large compared to a standard Large at most pizza places, you can visibly see the difference when you get the X-Large. The pieces are larger and fill you up fast. You do not need to order extra anything with this pizza, unless you want it heavily topped because I did no add-ons and it came loaded with the toppings. There was ample cheese for the cheese lovers, ample meatball for the meat lovers and enough red sauce to know it was there but not so sloppily put, that it makes the toppings slide off the moment you pick it up. Their dough crust is structurally one of the best, if not the best I have had. I did not need a second hand to hold up the weight of the pizza, the dough was that well cooked and prepared. The crust of the pizza itself is not soft or hard, it has a play on of both for a great flaky and melty crust. I live seventeen minutes away from this location and when I got home, my pizza was still warm like it had cooled a little after being in the oven. There was not a stitch of grease on the back of the bottom for the pizza box. That is impressive to me and worthy of a review. Overall, 10/10 and will purchase from here again. Please note, this is only for the Lasagna pizza in X-Large. I do not know if any of my opinions would hold true for their other menu items. I can only write...
