Must READ. So my girl and I stopped in and had an unforgettable experience. Our waitress was brand-new, a complete Green horn. memorable quotes: "if you want it in a glass we can do that, or we can put it in a bottle." Response to "is it bottled beer?" Then there was the appetizer dilemma no sampler but I think we can get three for one price. That doesn't sound right but you check and if not we just want the mushrooms. Three apps arrived at our table. I heard her tell the people behind us when they asked her where they pay, "Here, but I can take it and if it's cash or a credit card I can bring you your change." Chips as an app at a place that doesn't serve mexican dishes.. according to the bartender at The Derrick that's unheard of! Anyways it reads under chips and salsa one free refill. I asked for the refill told her the menu reads we get one but she'll have to check. My girl asked about the sandwiches and if the come with a side I told her no and pointed to the menu and the waitress joined me in pointing add a side for 2.75 Not ready to order so she'll be back... The sandwich is ordered, the waitress went to put the order in and came back to ask which side for the sandwich... ? I'm isn't it extra? No they told me it comes with a side and to come ask.. food comes, anything else? Ketchup please!! After a couple visits to our table I finally asked her "Do you know what goes good with French fries? Ketchup!!" She brings the ticket and guess what was charged extra.. the fries. What an experience, my girl told the waitress that she would be a good Hostess. I suggested to her taking home a menu and learning it!! Thank you for reading.. I left out a few details. But we were laughing so much about her lack of any knowledge on the menu and...
Read moreA group of mine all got the $18.00 buffet. The lettuce was not good quality. Iceberg and not cleaned properly with huge chunks of white core in salad. The tabouli was not seasoned enough but did have a good texture. The pea salad was terrific. The cornbread salad was to die for. The okra was dry and stiff. The sweet pickles were great! The beets were awesome! Now for the hot bar... The fried pork chop was great. The fried chicken should have been discarded as it was not fit to eat. The jalapeno chicken was great. The catfish was great. The roast beef was tough as shoe leather and had zero flavor. The brisket was dry and flanked with over an inch of fat. It was setting alone without au jus under a heat lamp and resembled road kill. There were two potatoes available. The mashed were very good but the brown gravy was scorched and setting in a crusty pan. The country potatoes were severely undercooked and did not taste good. The desserts were store bought cobblers with hardly any filling other than a sugary mixture and were so overly cooked that it literally ran off the plate .The cookies were good but not homemade. The service was lackluster and we sat without drinks for most of the meal. Dishes were not removed in a timely manner . The manager was present when he sat us and was very cold and never visited us again during the entire stay. He rattled off what was on the Buffett and walked off. The most polite employee was the young lady who was bussing tables.. We all agreed that it could have been better if someone attended the bar and kept it...
Read moreThis is a great place I recently rediscovered. I ate their with some frequency in the early 80's, when I was regularly taking deliveries in and around Cushing. After living in other areas and doing different jobs since then, I found myself in Cushing again a few months ago and wanted to find out what it was like now. When I pulled up, I noticed the outside of the building was much, if not exactly, how I remembered it. Going on through the door, I couldn't believe how dead on the inside aligned with my memories of it. The only thing left was to try the food. I remembered eating really good chicken fried steak there before, so I ordered that. I got the large version, figuring I could get two meals out of it for the extra three bucks it cost. They brought me a really delicious steak, again just like I remembered it being from years before. And plenty big for two big meals to come from it. This place is truly a time capsule! Last Saturday night, December 30, my wife and I, along with another couple from Tulsa that we are friends with, met another couple from Shawnee there. This was barbecue & fried chicken buffet night, so we got that. We were all very pleased with our whole experience. Our waiter was great, atmosphere was perfect, and the food all excellent. We enjoyed it all, and had a nice evening visiting...
