We visited Marblehead and Kelleys Island this past weekend for my birthday with a big group of friends and rented a house in Marblehead. After visiting Kelleys Island for the day on Saturday and participating in a fun birthday bar crawl drinking game, we decided to complete our bar crawl at We Willy’s on our way back to our rental house. We walked in, and it was fairly dead with less than 10 people at the bar. As part of the drinking game, we were wearing lanyards I made with the drink suggestions, and our last stop was supposed to be a mixed drink. I asked the bartender if he had a bar menu, and I was immediately given a dirty look of disgust. In which, he then grabbed a food menu, threw it on the counter and said, “this is the only menu we have.” So, in hopes of getting his recommendation for a mixed drink, I started explaining to him that we were doing a bar crawl and showed him the lanyard. He IMMEDIATELY went off his rocker and started getting furious shouting, “I’m not going to sign anything!” Lost and confused, I tried to explain to him that there was nothing he had to sign, and this was a game that I made myself. Without hesitation, he demanded, “you should just leave.”
My husband immediately stepped in, to my defense, and said, “don’t yell at my wife like that!” The owner then came out, and we explained the entire misunderstanding to him, and he literally STOOD THERE IN COMPLETE SILENCE. He just had this blank stare and became mute. Then, in the midst of the owner’s dumbfounded moment, the bartender interjected with, “This was clearly a miscommunication, so you should just leave.”Our group was completely appalled and decided at this point that they weren’t worth our business and money. As we were walking out, a couple of the ladies eating at the bar, waved and snarkily said, “BYE!”
We were blown away by the rudeness of not only the staff but even some of the patrons, who were clearly locals in the area who hate tourists. Several people in my group felt that this was so abrupt and appalling that they felt it could have been an act of racism, as I was probably the only Asian for 100 mile radius of this small town. If this wasn’t the ONLY bar in Marblehead, I am convinced they would have been closed a long time ago. They are lucky that alcoholics desperately need an option, and Marblehead forces them to patronize this...
Read moreThis was our first visit to the sports pub. It is definitely more of a local pub, but if you're looking for a local non-cookie cutter place, this Is worth a try. I was pretty surprised they didn't have any beer on tap, but they did have a very nice selection of national, imports and local beers. They had Great Lakes craft beer out of Cleveland, which is always a great choice. They have a limited bar food menu, but what they do they do well. I ordered a cheeseburger and found out that Tuesdays are free fries (Didn't see any advertisement, a nod to I guess the locals just know). It was Absolutely great, and so were the fries! My wife ordered chicken fingers that I typically avoid, but they were great as well. Overall I would definitely go back, as the beer was cold and the food was great. What's...
Read moreIt's a great place to go and Hangout. People are very friendly, the staff is very friendly. I really recommend this place. I think its very sad how some people are calling them racist!! I think if it was true that they treated someone bad and called them a racist name then show The proof .Now and days people are recording everything. It's sad to take advantage of what other people are really going through with racism. For anyone to try to use it for their personal vengeance!! I went there and they treated me with respect and...
