I would like to start by saying my husband and I have been coming up to stay at the Surf Motel for the past 3 summers now. We have always had a good experience. Our first stay this summer was absolutely horrible! To start off, we booked our room about a month ahead of time. We did so because we requested a room closest to the lake side. We both worked the day that we came up, so we decided it would be polite to call and inform the staff that we would be arriving a little later than the check-in time. The women on the phone was very polite and said that it was fine, and that she would have our room all ready for us when we got there. She also sad that we were in the second to last room towards the lake. I was thrilled! When we arrived we checked in and got out room key. The room that we ended up in was no where near the lake end! So naturally I was a little let down. But no big deal. However, this was only the beginning... When we opened the door to our room, it was stale and hot! The AC was not even turned on. The windows were shut. Okay, again...I can deal with this. Later in the evening I went to take a shower, which was much needed after being stuck in a hot room. As I turned on the water, the drain spit back a bunch of pubes in to the tub!! Then the tub began to fill with hairy water. My husband immediately called the office. A lady came in and basically just poured a bunch of draino down the tub and then said she would be back in 15 minutes to rinse it down. After this we were both pretty grossed out, so we decided we better check the rest of the room. And not to my surprise, we found questionable stains on the blankets, crusty chunks of food near the head of the bed and to top it all off...big boogers stuck to the mattress (near the headboard)!! We booked the room for 2 nights and paid $200 for a disgusting dirty room! Not worth the money at all! We will not be staying here ever again! Its...
Read morePostively the worst experience ever. The attendant was an older lady with a rotten disposition that only got worse as my stay got longer. This wasn't the same ladies I made reservations with by phone. The dates of my stay were wrong, even after calling prior to my visit to clarify and confirm. My credit card was charged without notice..just an email for the last day stay and the charges were different. The shower barely drained and the sheets didn't fit the bed and were inside out. Nothing like tossing and turning on an unsteady makeshift platform bed with a plastic mattress cover. The television didn't work in several rooms. The do not distub sign on the door was violated and they came in the room regardless. The clean towels were like sandpaper with dried up pink crustations stuck to them and the air conditioner couldnt keep up. The attendant was consistently rude and made me feel at the very least, unwanted during a Holiday stay of almost $500.00. The office and store do not open untill 11am by which most vacationers are well into a planned day making it only convienant for the staff to do bussiness. I do not recommend this...
Read moreWe stayed at one of the motels here. I would concider this a slightly updated experience from your basic cabin. There is a small fridge, shower / bathtub, sink and coffee maker in the room. Direct tv in the rooms as well. If you are looking for a hotel with all the amenities, this is not your place. Being a camper, I am okay with this set up. The nice thing is that there are shared fire rings for everyone to use. You can also use the campground outdoor pool.
Having stayed at nice motels in the area and here, I have to say I enjoyed this much more. We are always going to the beach and running food and beach stuff to and from the hotel to the car. With this set up, the van was right outside the door to the room ☺️. We saved so much time loading and unloading. We were so close to all the things we wanted to do and paid a fraction of the cost of local hotel rooms we wouldn't be at for long anyway.
We walked across the road to the lake. This place is so close to Marblehead...
