As promised, after my initial review, I revisited LF and said I would update my review. Here's my update. A little, but not much better:
My initial visit to Lucky Fish in Dania Beach was less than stellar. Full disclosure – corporate offered me a $50 gift card so I revisited with my BFF. She also had a dismal first experience at LF, and they offered her a $25 card. We did not combine the cards - just used mine.
For my 2nd visit, I really wanted to set LF up for success. I mean, you’re overlooking the beautiful Atlantic right on the ocean so the location is so perfect!! Parking is a little harsh at over $5 / hour.
First, our waitress Alex was AWESOME!!! She checked in – just enough – made sure we were happy with our drinks and food – was very nice all around. In perusing the menu, we found out their fish is frozen. We’re in SoFL, and you can’t get fresh fish??? At her previous visit, B got a fish sandwich. But she said it had way too much sauce, and the fish was dry. Yeah, because it was frozen. I was too hungry for just a salad, so we both settled on burgers – with the sauce on the side. FYI – the sauce is REALLY GOOD, and we used it to dip fries. The cole slaw – also really good. The burgers … eh … they were okay. Shake Shack and Wendy’s have MUCH better burgers. The meat needed more seasoning, but since they too were frozen … The Key Lime Pie for desert was pretty good. All in all, we left full and happier than our initial visits.
When we went to pay and presented the gift card, we were told that they had seen LOTS of these. Obviously, they know there’s a problem, and the food REALLY needs some work. Perhaps serving FRESH food instead of FROZEN would be helpful.
Honestly, the ONLY thing LF has going for it is its location and the service – both excellent!! Until then, there are plenty of other options for a much better meal.
Below is my initial review. I met some friends on Friday for happy hour. HH ends exactly at 6pm. Not sure why they even have one. Your drink options are from 5 beers or mixed drinks – but it can only have one mix (ex. Rum and Coke or vodka and OJ). The skank vodka they use started to give me a headache. There were no food options for HH. As it was my first time here, I ordered the appetizer of conch fritters. If you mess up conch fritters, I’m not giving you another shot. You get 5 for $15. They are the size of maybe a golf ball (that’s being generous). All were crunchy outside, but half were not fully cooked inside. A waste of $35 (including $10 parking). Then, another friend told me she and her husband had dinner there Saturday night. They had the fish tacos – she said they were greaseballs and sent them back. They did like the drinks. They're not returning as it was $95 for 2 drinks and 2 entrees, plus $10 to park. There are plenty of other MUCH better places with an ocean view, an actual happy hour and...
Read moreWe were meeting with some friends last night and were excited about the restaurant location. It was our first time here and it was a lovely late afternoon. The weather was breezy. Just perfect until our waitress/server arrived. She had the worst customer service skills ever. She didn't greet us or introduce herself. Didn't smile once. She had an upset look on her face. My friend said we were going to be splitting the bill, she snapped at him and said that she couldn't do that now, it had to be at the end. We were in one table and our friends kids and our kids were in another table. Right at that moment we wanted to ask for another server but decided not to. She treated our children which are teenagers( very polite ones) in the same manner; snapping at them about drinks they didn't have available at the restaurant. She came back with our waters she then proceeded to take our orders in a very impatient manner snapping at us asking if we wanted the home fries or coleslaw. She later quickly sped by one time to ask if we were good " you guys good?". At the end when it was time for the check it was so complicated to split it up and I said to her " this is why this should be done at the beginning". She snapped at me and said she couldn't merge the checks. Our kids had all walked away and we didn't know what one of our kids ordered so we were trying to figure that out to split the check... but usually in our experiences a good waitress/server would usually remember who had what. By the grace of God my husband and our friend were still kind enough to give her 20% gratuity. She was truly lucky because I was going to give her significantly less. I wouldn't be able to tell you her name because she was not wearing a name badge (convenient ) but she was in her early 20's, tan skinned with tattoos up and down her right arm and a piercing on each side of her nose. I'd recommend you ask for another server/waitress if she is the one who is going to attend you. If she doesn't like people maybe she should work in the kitchen. She really ruined our night. On a more positive note, the hostess was a sweetheart and all the other waitress/ servers seemed to have a nice smile on their faces. The food was good except for the chicken tenders... Steer clear of those. I would return but as long as we are attended by a...
Read moreWas very excited to come try this place, but it was a colossal disappointment. Left feeling quite Unlucky!! Brought my daughter for Spring Break she ordered a Shiley Temple, and a Mai Tai. Server came back saying they did not have the Sierra Mist/7-Up needed for the Shirley, so she would need to order something else. She ordered the lemon-aid which she was happy with. Mai Tai came and it was entirely yellow. I told her I did not think that was what I ordered. She said the Mai Tai right? Yes, but they are usually either orange, or yellow with Brown (spiced rum) floating on top. She said oh it's $4 for the float of rum. I said I get if that is an extra float, but this drink is suppose to come with it. Otherwise I am paying $12 - for Well lite rum and pineapple juice. (I am from Hawaii and know how they are suppose to look and taste, 1 star) We started with the Calamari. We would rate the calamari a 4 out of 5 stars. For mains, I got the tropical shrimp wrap and she got the chicken tenders. She liked the tenders, because those are fairly difficult to screw up. The wrap... is suppose to have Shrimp in it, with cucumber, tomato, pineapple mango salsa, and avacado. It is sliced in half and served open face. I saw zero avacado and zero shrimp. Once you remove the toothpick the wrap sort of falls apart so I opened it. No avacado at all, 2 quarter sized pieces of shrimp per slice! So basically a tortilla with cucumber, salsa, and 2 pieces of shrimp for $16??!!! Are you kidding me. I asked the waitress, isn't this suppose to have avacado? She sheepishly said yes. Is both the cook and bartender brand new? To forget the dark rum in a Mai Tai? To forget the avacado for a $16 wrap, and put 4 shrimps in it? This is ridiculous! The wrap had no flavor and was a total rip off. Nice atmosphere, but if you're reading reviews I suggest to go with a full stomach and stick with beer or wine or very low expectations. Had very high hopes. Heard they opened recently. Maybe the can turn things around. Might try the Pompano Beach location to see if it...
