TLDR - Food is great, but prices are either out of control or restaurant is cheating the customers.
I've been coming to My Big Fat Geek Restaurant for a few years now and the food has always been great. The village Greek salad is delicious, the gyro platter is great as are the stuffed peppers, they have a great lunch menu, etc. Prices have definitely been steadily increasing, but it's never really been a problem, until today. I've been here for dinner several times, but I mostly frequent for lunch and I almost always have the stuffed peppers. In my experience, the lunch platter comes with a single stuffed pepper and costs about $13-15 while the dinner portion includes two peppers and is currently listed on their website for $22. I called the restaurant and ordered two of the dinner stuffed pepper platters for pickup (at around 7:30 pm). I arrived at the restaurant and paid the tab (each platter actually cost $23) while the hostess went to the kitchen to grab my food. When I got home, I was surprised to open the containers and find a single stuffed pepper in each. I immediately called the restaurant, curious to find out if they are now charging $23 for the lunch size meal, which I consider excessive. At first I was told it is supposed to come with one, but then the young lady corrected herself and said the dinner portion comes with two peppers. I asked her to confirm the cost of the dinner portion and she said $23. I explained that I had just picked up the dinner portion, paid $23 for each, and only received one pepper per platter, to which she responded that what I got was correct, that there were two options, and what I got was the "platter" and not the regular stuffed peppers. The platter only comes with one. Now I'm still confused, because there aren't two versions of the peppers on the menu, I've had both the lunch and the dinner before, and what I got tonight was exactly the lunch portion except I paid the dinner price, but I wasn't getting anywhere so I thanked her and hung up the phone. I'm not sure if the young lady was confused or lying, or if there are in fact two versions, only one of which is on the menu, but what I am sure of is $23 for the lunch meal is a bit of a rip-off. Food was still delicious, but tonight's experience was extremely...
Read moreBig Fat waste of time and money. I was really looking forward to this restaurant. Received $100 gift certificate for my B-Day. The place was very busy when we arrived, Which was about 30 minutes before closing. We Both ordered the Gyro plate on the recommendation of the waiter. This came with meat, Greek salad, peas and mashed potatoes. The food arrived about five minutes later. The meet was dried out and tasteless. After taking a few bites I summoned the waiter and asked him why the meat is is dry and resembles beef jerky. He explained that after they cut it from the skewer they then place it on a tray which then steams the meat. I question why they just couldn't cut it from the skewer and serve it that way. He said he could have, but I didn't request it that way. He explained others that know better will request that it be served direct from the skewer without the steamed process. I explained that it was not to my liking and requested they bring another order. He told me the kitchen was now closed and he would talk to the manager about crediting the meal. I explained that I did not complain because I wanted a free meal, just an order of meat that was not dry and tasteless. When they brought me the bill they didn't comp my meal, they gave me a $6.00 discount. The manager never bothered to come over to the table. When I handed the waiter my $100 gift certificate,I explained that I would like to pay my tip from the gift certificate. He came back a short while later and explained that if I did want to leave a tip, it could not be taken from the gift certificate. I've never heard of this before at any other restaurant I've ever been to. As much as I wanted to like this place and the food, it was just not...
Read moreThis was my first time eating Greek Food so I was a little lost with the menu, thank god my husband was there to help me. The restaurant ambiance is really nice, and casual. The food was incredible, well seasoned, and well cooked. My husband said the bathroom was really clean. My only disappointment was the service from the waitress, however the busboy and i think the manager made up for the customer service. Our waitress did not take time to greet us, she never introduced herself nothing, she seemed very agitated with us and rushing us (at least that is how i felt). I had asked what soup of the day it had and she sligthly rolled her eyes and said what soup. When i ordered my food and got my food she did come back to ask how is everything. But her overall service was not good. However, the busboy was really nice he came asked us if we wanted boxes for our food, if we needed anything else, he was so pleasant and had a pleasant tone (i wish he was our server). The manager or supervisor not sure because he was not in black he had a tan jersey on. He was nice, he gave us our food and told us to enjoy and if we needed anything else just say. Now as i sat there i observed my waitress with everyone else and her service was completely different with them. My husband said that the restaurant is very popular so those customers must be regulars, i said it does not matter service is service. Now if i was ignorant i would have thought probably it was because of race, but then i looked around and saw quite a few customers who were black but their servers was really nice to them. Oh well all in all the food was Excellent, the prices are Fantastic. Would i go back? Yes I would but I would surely want...
