When you start your day with freshly squeezed orange juice and really good coffee the rest of breakfast is certainly going to be great. This is the case at the locally owned Gilbert Street Cafe. The restaurant was Saturday morning busy but we were seated quickly and drink orders taken. The Corned Beef breakfast featured a generous portion of corned beef hash (maybe the canned kind with tiny potato cubes), with hash browns, 2 eggs cooked to order and toast. It was easily enough food for two and was very tasty. We also enjoyed French Toast with sausage links, and eggs scrambled with ham and cheese, with bacon and toast. It's easy to see why this is consistently voted Danville's Best Breakfast.

We went on Sunday morning for breakfast, and it was hard to find parking. My other friends ended up using the parking lot of the other building beside it. I had to circle multiple times to wait for others to leave. We had to wait for 10 to 15 minutes. There wasn't really a waiting area. The waiting area was upfront with chairs. You give your name, and then they call it when you are ready to be sat down. The place was super busy. The server was very friendly and interactive. The food arrived fast and fresh. The staff did a great job cleaning as soon as there was an empty plate or glass. Mimosas were amazing, especially when they used freshly squeezed orange juice.

This restaurant has become one of our favorite places to eat. The prices are reasonable, the service is excellent, and everything that we've tried so far has been delicious. Breakfast is available here all day. Phone orders can be placed ahead of time for pickup if you don't want to dine inside. Most of the sandwiches are priced under $10. WiFi is available with a 20+ Mbps connection speed. The network password is displayed on the wall so you don't have to ask for it every time. This place is popular and always busy but the wait has never been more than a few minutes.

I've been patronizing Gilbert Street Cafe since they opened for business many years ago. Very friendly and knowledgeable and eager to help you associates that greet you and seat you when you walk in the door. Wheelchair accessible parking, entrance, seating and restrooms. This is a very family friendly Cafe and is neat and clean and well organized. Lovely decor and they have free WI-FI for your convenience. They have a fantastic atmosphere and treat you like family and the staff will go above and beyond your expectations to make sure you get a great and enjoyable dining experience that meets and exceeds your wants and needs and gives you the WOW factor. Their menu offers a very wide variety of delicious and delectable dishes prepared to your order and very good portion sizes. They have breakfast served any time, burgers and specialty sandwiches, salads, soups of the day, a very wide variety of lunch and dinner options and if you're just wanting something to munch on instead of a full meal you'll find that here to. When you walk in the door there's an easel board that lists the many different daily specials that they have and true to form it changes every day. I can honestly tell you that this is the number one choice for dining the many times we visit the Danville Illinois area. If you enjoy a wide variety of great tasting home cooked meals and specialty foods and wonderful daily specials and a stress free enjoyable atmosphere and very reasonable prices for a great value and quality for your money then I guarantee that you will get it at the Gilbert Street Cafe and you'll come back to visit them again and again and your taste bud's and your appetite will be happy and satisfied every time. Over the years everything we've ever ordered is delicious and delectable and very satisfying. They are open 7 days a week and have great hours for all of your dining needs. And here's a great tip for everyone. Be sure and save room in your tummy for dessert. They offer a great wide selection of desserts and just like everything else at this Cafe every single dessert offering is just delicious and made with the highest quality ingredients and prepared with tender loving care. We highly recommend the Gilbert Street Cafe for your dining pleasure and we'll be visiting them again and...

Gilbert Café at 628 North Gilbert St, Danville, IL 61832

I had the most amazing salad prepared at Gilbert Café. The salad is called Strawberry Bistro Pecan with grilled chicken breast, spring mix greens, freshly sliced strawberries, pecans, and feta cheese crumbles with a raspberry vinaigrette. I ordered this salad during the noon lunch hour to eat for dinner last night. The café was super busy during the noon lunch hour, but the cashier who took my order was attentive, polite, patient and gave recommendations on what to order. All of the food coming out of the kitchen looked delicious. I waited about 10-15minutes for my order. The salad came in a large styrofoam take-out container with a sheet of foil lining the bottom. The café provided (3) small containers of raspberry vinaigrette dressing and (2) eating utensil kits. The salad also came with a choice of the “homemade soup-of-the-day” or chili for an extra dollar. I was NOT disappointed with their chili, perfect blend of spices with (2) packets of oyster crackers. The chili came in a medium sized styrofoam cup with a plastic lid. The salad had a perfect balance of all ingredients with the appropriate amount of grilled chicken strips and dressing. I only have two recommendations: to have two cashiers, one to take carry-out orders/payments and the other to take the dine-in payments. The other recommendation is to utilize recyclable bags and take-out containers instead...

I'm glad it wasn't our first visit. It started with a young man (I would later find out to be the manager) who rushed us to a booth without getting an answer as to how many were in our party. We were not ready to sit because my wife needed to walk her medical service alert dog, also because of the size of the dog, we needed a table rather than a booth. But the "manager" was in too big of a hurry to inquire about any of this because all he was interested in was watching a game on his phone. The food was not as good as usual, and for the first time, we got a waitress with a poor attitude. My corned beef hash was overcooked, almost to the point of being burnt. The last time I had it, it was barely warmed up. The waitress never asked if we wanted dessert or if we needed boxes. She just left the check at the table when we were 3/4 done eating. The dinning room needs to at least be repainted. There are several chips and large scratches in the paint. The bathrooms were both dirty, and the door to the ladies' bathroom doesn't shut all the way which made my wife very uncomfortable. I'm hoping that we just caught them on an off day. I would hate to see this restaurant...
