TLDR: Overall: high quality, great prices, and friendly staff.
If you haven't tried Hall's yet, run, don't walk, over there. Just not on Mondays. First of all, the place smells intoxicating and it put an immediate smile on my face as soon as I opened the door. As a bakery, I'm sure they have an extremely full set of options in the morning, but I went around 1pm and they still had a great selection to choose from. It was hard to decide, so I went a little overboard, but I'm not mad about it. I picked 2 deli options, honey sriracha chicken salad and the peppah cheese? They were both delicious smeared on the cheesy focaccia bread they cooked. I sampled the cheese crackers fresh out of the oven and it was like angels were singing in my mouth. I couldn't stop giggling. The yeast donuts are phenomenal. The glazed are bigger and more dense and filling than a Krispy Kreme, but still melt on your tongue goodness. They have an awesome selection of the other flavors, both filled and topped and they're all quite tasty. The Texas glazed donut is bigger than your head and worth it's weight in gold. Sure to brighten anyone's day with both size and taste. The cakes were nicely decorated with good options for flavors, but I was more partial to the other confections listed above. I met three staff members are they were all so nice and helpful. Friendly banter as I perused, good knowledge of the products, and genuinely seemed to care that I was there; I felt like they truly valued my business.
Moral of the story, I am so looking forward to trying more of...
Read moreMy wife and I were excited to try this place. We had heard such great reviews and we had heard how delicious their pastries were. Sadly, we were very disappointed. The donuts looked clunky and while the lemon filled my wife had was good, it was a bit tart and the icing was way too sugary. The honeybun I tried tasted like nothing more than a glazed donut. The oatmeal cream pie had a filling that was a little sweet and the cookies were hard, forcing all the filling out as I took a bite. I will say that the chocolate cake was pretty decent but it looked atrocious (you could still see the non-stick spray from the pan). And finally, the service was pitiful. The woman who waited on us appeared to be fed up with work, she was not very friendly and never even smiled. Believe me, we won't go back and I wouldn't recommend the...
Read moreRude staff. You could just feel the tension when walking in. They even have a sign shushing customers. Their donuts tasted good but were poorly presented. A toddler with a sand shovel could ice a donut better. They taste like the kind that have potatoes added to them. Their pies, cakes and cookies are ok but not all that great. If this is Danville’s finest pastry shop, I think Danville has low standards. In reading the “real” reviews, it appears that my shopping experience with them is consistent with their “bad day” days. I’ll never go back. Midtown is a much much much much friendlier place ALL THE TIME as is Danville Donuts. It’s not worth having to walk on eggshells again with these employees just for one of their junior...
