I would have easily given this place 5 stars based on their food. However, the service and pricing were completely ridiculous. We were seated, and an older couple came in after we sat. I watched the owner point to a table without looking at them, and even though the woman said something twice he ignored her and kept walking. Not exactly a way to get return business! The look on her face said it all. After we placed our order (and the order was read back twice), the waitress brought our appetizers, but no plates to put anything on. Finally got some after asking, but then the older couple asked for a condiment, and the female owner literally snapped her fingers and pointed to the older couples table. Which the whole restaurant saw. Extremely unprofessional considering that she could have helped them, but instead went into another part of the restaurant and sat down. The waitress was the only one working and there were a handful of tables so she was super busy and definitely inexperienced. Our food came, and the waitress never cleared the table and then told us the kitchen made a mistake on my daughter's eggs. She wanted overmedium, but they were scrambled. She told us we'd have to pay extra for new eggs and the toast that she ordered. She had a complete meltdown about it, but she kept looking at the owner in a panic. That tells me he is not very business savvy and cares more about money than customers. What policy says that a customer should pay for your mistake? Also, why is your policy that if someone wants toast instead of pancakes, they have to pay $4?? I suggest taking a business class and retraining your staff unless you don't want to stay in business. I'm willing to pay for a good experience, but $100 for what we got was not worth it. Your food is good, but your lack of customer service, high prices, and business practices are certainly in need of...
Read moreWe entered the Deforest family Resturant for a culinary adventure-we were not disappointed. The service was friendly and fast (umm maybe too fast???.....), even the waitress said she was surprised at how fast they cook the food! To quote her "I don't know how they do it!" This food left us confused. First the salad was a chunky style, the 2x3" cube of ünchopped salad needed a steak knife if you even wanted to eat it. Not to mention the pale tomato half sitting in the salad they looked like it needed another week or two of ripening! The Saturday "special" of BBQ chicken was definitely special. The nearly bottle and a half of BBQ sauce covering the scrawny pieces of chicken surely kept it moist but I wanted chicken not a bottle of BBQ..... The 21 "shrimp" basket may have had some shrimp in it but that's questionable! They resembled cheetos in their crusty appearance & were not enough to even cover the bottom of the basket....pass on this! The mashed potatoes seemed promising but all I can say is that they had a lot of gravy but no taste. They couldn't even be saved with salt, pepper, and extra smashing....The mixed vegetables.... hmmm....These came as a surprise! I think the local vacationing school lunch ladies needed a venue to get rid of these & the family Resturant felt bad and said ok...but these were the highlight of the meals. We typically favor the down home goodness of a family Resturant but this is one we will NOT be repeating. The variety of deficiencies made it worth while as a story we will share with others for...
Read moreI will give it one star for the feta cheese salad. It was good. Unfortunately not a smile or friendly greeting from the person behind the counter or the waitress. When asked if the large salad could be done in half the waitress replied with an abrupt NO. Her attitude from there went down hill. My husbands pancakes were served cold with cold syrup. The waitress never came back so we could even let her know. When I asked for a container for my second half of the salad, I said we were finished. She never came back with a bill, so we went up to the counter to pay. When I asked to look at the bill she was aggressively rude from that point on. She said I could have seen it but we didn't wait for her to bring it. I told her about the pancakes and that he couldn't even eat them. She replied very rudely that she served them warm. I congratulated her on being the rudest waitress we had ever had on any of our travels. There was more rude exchange, of course. She said she has worked there for a year and that she was alone there (excuse?) I don't know? Just a warning for those passing through the Deforest area. STAY AWAY!! This was Sunday January 6, 2019 3pm, in case the owner is interested in finding out who was working and just how they treat people who aren't regulars. I did notice as we were waiting the gigantic pie serving she was serving some people she obviously knew. I guess you have to be...
