We had stopped to take photos of the pink elephant then I looked at our Google maps app and saw DeForest is home to the Norske Nook. This past summer I had been at an estate rummage sale and purchased a Norske Nook cookbook so I had to go check it out. Wow the bakery just blew me away. So many pies! We sat down and ordered a meal too. I had a turkey melt with their homemade cranberry wild rice bread. It is soooo yummy! My husband had a breakfast bowl with sausage gravy. He let me taste it, yummy! Can’t go to Scandinavian place without trying their meatballs. They are worth trying so glad I did. We left with a pie, cookies and bread. They can sell you an ice pack if you have a ways to go. They have been doing food right for over 50 years! Cassandra our server was welcoming she suggested the turkey melt, happy she did!

I grew up going to the original location in Osseo, was happy to discover that there's a location close to Madison now. The pies are the real (and tbh only) reason to come here! The various fruit/berry sour cream pies are my absolute favorites. But all the pie is wonderful. 5 stars, solely for the pie! The building and decor is just kind of ordinary comfortable family diner ambiance, nothing too special. The breakfast and lunch items are fine, also nothing too special - lots of local older folks eat here, it's the style and kind of bland food that appeals to my elderly dad more than me. But it's filling and reasonably priced. The sour cream raspberry pie is my go-to as they most always have it. If you can get it the blackberry or ligonberry sour cream pies are amazing!

Disappointed …..We did enjoy our server but nothing else would make us want to go back. Two of us ate lunch and it was $50! We eat out every day of the week as we travel for work. This was one of the most expensive and disappointing we’ve ever had. Two pieces of pie waters to drink and two entrees for $50? Worse yet the portions were mediocre at best. The clientele seemly was older so I think the foods blandness might be because of that but man oh man we wasted our money…. If it was a cheap ole dinner maybe it would’ve been better but if you wanna spend money like your eating prime rib at a supper club and only get the portions and flavor you’d expect from the deli counter at piggly wiggly then it’s perfect for you…

Where do I begin, we got there and waited forever to even have someone come over to take our order for drinks. When someone came over he took our drink order and came back a while later. When it came time to order food, my husband ordered the fish fry and I ordered the BLT. I asked for crispy bacon and he even asked a 2nd time just to verify. I had asked for a side of chili to come before the meal, it came out 2 minutes before our food and it was COLD. When our food came, the bacon looked like it hadn't even been cooked at all much less crispy. I ate all my fries in that time frame waiting for someone to come over. He finally came over asked how things were, I explained that the bacon was not cooked hardly much less crispy. He told me people make mistakes and he would bring out new bacon.. never took my plate, never asked anything. So by this time my husband was done eating his over cooked fish, his cold corn, and had an empty glass of soda. Mind you this was not busy, maybe 5 cars in the parking lot. Our waiter comes back over hands me a plate of bacon. I had to remake my own sandwich. Take the non cooked bacon off, put new bacon on while the bottom piece of bread was soggy at this point. He came back over and asked how things were then and I told him that I didn't expect to make my own sandwich from a mess up on their end. I explained that I will not be charged for this meal due to this. He came back and said that the manager took off my sandwich from the bill.. but again stated everyone makes mistakes. No manager never came over to our table, nothing. We went to check out and the nice woman asked how things were and my husband told her it was not a good experience and we were not satisfied. She asked what happened and we told her and she apologized. And at this point offered me a free cookie.. at this point it was kind of to late. Not sure we...

Never been so insulted by a restaurant manager in my life. To start, we got there and waited forever to have someone take our drink order, and then waited a bit longer to have someone take our food order. When it came time to order food, my fiance and I ordered 2 morning samplers. We both asked for crispy hash browns. When our food came, the hash browns were oil soaked and less than crispy, our eggs were cold, we had burnt toast and the sausage was barely cooked at all. Neither of us could even attempt to eat our meals so my fiance called the waitress over to get a manager. When she came over she was already defensive about the time it took for us to get our food. We explained that not only did we have to wait almost an hour for our food, it was all cold and barely cooked. She told us that the normal wait time on a Sunday for breakfast is 37 mins and that we should know this is not a fast food restaurant. (Mind you it was not that busy this morning, maybe 10 cars in the parking lot at this time and more than enough staff). While still trying to tell us we were wrong, she preceded to ask if we wanted pie to satisfy the fact that our meal was disgusting. She then said she was not going to argue with us because we are already wasting her time and asked us "do you want pie or not?" and walked away when we said no. (if I wanted pie, I would have ordered it). We got up from our table, paid for 2 meals we did not eat and walked out. We went to check out and the nice woman asked how things were and my fiance told her it was one of the worst experiences we have had. She asked what happened and we told her and she apologized. No amount of PIE could ever...

It was honestly horrible. We've gone there before and it's not any better each time. The food isn't that good. You could make it better at home following a recipe. The service is the worst I've ever exsperenced at a restaurant. She forgot to take my brothers order. We asked for refills on water and got them at the end of the meal when she literally gave us the bill. She brought out desert first for my cousin and not my brother. He wanted plain cheesecake and we did specifically ask that she bring only his out first and she brought a cinnamon roll out for my cousin. There were 4 of us. Not a huge group. I had an omelette. Just ham and cheese. Easy not to screw up but it ended up with mushrooms in it. I'm allergic. I get cross contamination but literally in my food. I had to call her over to take it away from me immediately but she looked back and asked me to wait. I had to have someone else from my table take it up to the front desk. She asked if I could pick them off. My cousin had the same story. He wanted a burger only pickles and lettuce. It came back with cheese and pickles were under his fries. We sent it back and they came back almost 10 minutes later and you could see they just pulled off the cheese there was still cheese on it cause it was melted off in that spot. He was sick half the night cause he didn't want to be bothersome and send it back again. There were grounds in the coffee. Don't go here unless you would like to be ignored, pay to ruin your day, or die from allergies or just get really sick. Broke out in Hives in the middle of the restaurant I had to leave five minutes early to get...
