I was very excited to try this place and it had been on my list for quite awhile Due to my love for BBQ. I purchased the Sandwhich Platter which comes with a Sandwhich 2 sides and a drink.
The Brisket Sandwhich- In all honesty it’s pretty original and nothing really pops out about it. The meat itself was cooked very well nice and tender and juicy but didn’t really have that smoke house flavor that I was looking for. The bbq sauce on the other hand (Spicy BBQ) was very tasty and reasonably spicy didn’t have too much of a kick but you couldn’t definitely feel the spice which is what I like. All in in all The Sandwhich was Really good and I definitely enjoyed other than the Not having that smoke house Flavor.
Sides
Onion Rings: The onion rings is part of the reason why I only gave them 4 stars. They were kind of overcooked and very very very thin. I would honestly compare them to a pixe stick and the presentation which I received them wasn’t very appetizing they could definitely use some thickness to them and a little less cooked but not too much to were there soggy. If they tweaked this just a bit they would be a delicious side.
Baked Beans: Hands Down Absolutely delicious Cooked very well and packed full of flavor and for some odd reason they had more of a Smokey flavor than the Brisket did😬 I Highly recommend these tasty baked beans as a side and there even better with a quick drizzle of that Spicy BBQ sauce
Staff- I cant really say much about the staff but they were friendly knew my order and where to grab it which shows Professionalism To myself. Take note this was a take out order and don’t really have much time to sit in for a meal but juts by picking up I felt welcomed which is a good thing!
Final review- All in all this a franchise smoke house and you get what you pay for. It’s nice place to stop in and grab some decent BBQ. The prices aren’t too steep and you get an ok amount of food for what you pay. Like I said the only thing that needed tweaking was the onion rings which isn’t that bad I’m not gonna say I highly recommend this place but it is 100% definitely worth a try If your in the Newark area and I would definitely be willing to come back and try...

As typical with new places, I waited a few weeks before trying it out, expecting them to have all the new employee/store/service bugs worked out by then. From what I saw and what co-workers told me about what it was like when they first opened, things have gone straight downhill!
Issues I had/have: there is one tiny little 3-ft counter, shoved between the soda machine and the ice-cream machine, to get soda, get ice-cream, get condiments/napkins/silverware/etc., get your BBQ sauces, put lids on your drinks, etc. And this being Delaware, nobody's going to wait for you to get/do everything you need - they'll just try and shove you out of the way.
The bigger issue was that, when I went to get my BBQ sauces, the 3-ft counter was filthy! It had not only fresh BBQ sauce all over the counter, but it also had BBQ sauce stains that were completely dried out as if they'd been sitting there for a few hours. And, two of the three lids for the BBQ sauce containers had fallen inside the containers, with one, based on the dried-out sauce on the cover, apparently had been sitting inside the container for quite a while.
The worst part was that, although they had sauce cups to get BBQ sauce to go, they had no lids for them. When I mentioned it to one of the employees, instead of handing me the package of lids to put on the counter, she asked me how many lids I needed then reached into a package of lids using the greasy gloves she uses to cut the meat, pulled out the three I asked for, and handed the three grease covered lids to me, expecting me to use them. When I refused the dirty lids, none of the employees seemed to understand why I didn't want to use dirty greasy lids.
Apparently, no one in the store seems to understand the concept of clean hygiene. I left the $20 of food I bought on the counter...
Read moreThe rating is low but it does reflect our overall experience. We will be back at some point in the future to see if things have improved and hopefully update this review with a better rating.
Upon entering on a Friday evening there was a line to the door. We decided to stay thinking it wouldn’t be that long, but we were very wrong. It took a little under an hour to get to order our food. There was 1 person portioning meat, 1 person portioning sides, and 5 people in the back doing who knows what. After our meat was prepped and sides put on our tray we had to wait while the cashier took her time ringing up the previous order. To make matters worse she got distracted in the middle of ringing up ours. By the time we got to the table the meat was barely warm along with the ‘hot’ sides. The food tasted good and I was full when we left I was a little disappointed in the portion size for the price. Personally I feel other bbq joints in the area offer a better overall food experience especially when you consider price and time.
The building is very nice and it seemed that there was enough just enough seating for their pace. One thing my SO pointed out was the lady who was cleaning tables immediately switch over to restocking utensils and ice cream cones without washing her hands. She also seemed to be involved with management or ownership and was actively talking with people she knew but didn’t seem to engage with other unknown patrons. Not a big deal but it was noticed.
I hope this is just grand opening jitters and things will be fixed in the coming weeks, but I cannot in good faith give this place any more stars...
