Our two person party visited the Lobster Shanty (37310 Lighthouse Rd., Fenwick Isle, DE 19944) for a late lunch on a Wednesday afternoon at about 3:30. We wouldn't be needing dinner!
The atmosphere is very casual and laid back. One could feel comfortable in shorts and a t-shirt or a sport jacket. It is a beachy restaurant after all.
We walked right in and had our choice of "sun or shade" as offered by the hostess. We chose shade and got a wonderful table right by the windows looking out over the bay that was, indeed, shaded even with a great view. An osprey visited the nest right outside the windows and accompanied us for the rest of our meal.
We had an appetizer, 2 adult beverages each, two entrees, and a shared dessert. Our bill was $103 before tip, and well worth every penny (happy hour saves a few bucks on each drink and appetizer).
The drinks were tasty and tall. The crab and artichoke melt was served with toasted bread chips and is one of the better "crab dip" offerings in the area.
The stuffed lobster tail was sizeable and well stuffed with a tasty crab mixture of more crab than breading. The accompanying asparagus tips and mashed potatoes were very good.
The grilled chicken and avocado blt was excellent. Five fresh slices of avocado accompany a very substantial chicken breast with two, just right crispy pieces of bacon and melted provolone. The nice slice of lettuce and tomato are all served in a sort of "build your own" plate setting which makes it easier to get the sizable sandwich just right for you. The coleslaw was creamy, crisp, and very satisfying. Don't skip the sauce, and upgrade to the fries if your diet allows!
If you can manage one of the desserts, share! Ask your server (Kris was awesome, knowledgeable, and just the right mix of attentive without being intrusive!) about the size. The apple fritter was really good. A large bowl with an equally large fritter topped with two scoops of ice cream, whipped cream, fresh berries (blueberries and strawberries) and drizzled with some (butterscotch maybe?) tasty topping.
We will, without a doubt, be back. My guess, given the prep work that was going on when we left, is that it gets pretty busy later on. A late afternoon visit was just the ticket and we loved...
Read moreWe had always heard how great this restaurant was. That is why you never go on anything you hear. We went in and the restaurant is very loud you can not carry on a conversation without raising your voice. We were seated right away for a table of two the table was so small two children would have been crowded. I order the lobster chowder which was excellent. We then waited and waited for the waitress to return to take our order. Finally we ordered I ordered the stuffed flounder and my better half ordered the twin lobster tails. I had ordered and drank by now my one beer and in the one hour and ten minute wait for our dinner our waitress never returned to refill our water or to ask if I wanted another beer When our food arrived not by the waitress my wifes twin lobster tail dinner had turned into a stuffed lobster tail dinner and my stuffed flounder had finally arrived. After telling the server her dinner was wrong he offered to get our waitress which he did she apologized and said she had ordered the wrong thing and offered to get her the dinner she had originally ordered She declined the offer as we did not want to wait any longer. Now to the food review The flounder was two tiny fillets no bigger or thicker then a strip of bacon and the crab imperial it was stuffed with was all filler it was over cooked and very dry like trying to eat sand paper the stuffed lobster tail was the same terrible crab imperial that they stuffed my flounder with. When our waitress returned to see if we wanted any deserts she asked how it was and I always give an honest review to them just like I am writing here. She said she was sorry and went and got us our check. We never were offered any discount not that o would have taken it I never do but it is nice when they offer But I shouldn't have expected any discount no more then I should have expected our ice water to be refilled or a second beer Take my advice from a local born and raised here on the Eastetn Shore do not waste your time or money at the...
Read moreHubby and I look forward to eating here when heading back to NJ from Ocean City. Normally all is wonderful - great service and food with our favorite shared brownie sundae dessert. Love the view and the eclectic decorations. Today we got there a bit later and had to wait over 30 minutes which was ok. Sat in the 'outside' bar area which was very noisy, but expected. However service wasn't up to par: no rolls or drink refills, waitress didn't really check on us after we first got our food until we were basically done. It was busy but ... Hubby had burger which was good as usual. I had lobster pot pie which was ok but it would have made a better soup - the crust top looked good, but got all soggy when wet, became a globby mess and was hard to cut to eat. The lobster was a nice size claw portion, but again hard to cut and eat. The crock is small, the insides very liquidy like soup and it kept overflowing the crock. Would have been easier if the lobster was chunked/cut up and I had rolls to soak up some of the liquid. Others may love it this way, but I didn't enjoy and it took too long for me to eat due to the cutting difficulty - would not order again - should have gotten lobster salad, cheese steak or burger instead. Plus people can't park well and those who back into spaces often don't go back far enough and make it very difficult for others to get out of their space. More than one person had considerable difficulty getting out of their parking space - especially those with...
