Treasure Beach Bummer... We've visited friends/family here twice in the past and it was lovely. In fact, most of the place is still lovely, minus the trash (see below). So I don't know what was going on in the 600's last summer, but for the money we paid it was 100% a disappointment. At less than half the cost per night surrounding state parks were/are pristine. Even on covid skeleton crews they manage to keep everything neat & tidy, empty the fire pits and sweep & clean up the sites before arrival - just basic upkeep that makes a place enjoyable. Treasure Beach, not so much.
There was trash everywhere, and not just the expected occasional piece floating around. This was old, obviously weathered trash that hadn't just blown from the back of someone's truck (including 2 different socks, glass chunks, plastic bottles, a disgusting used glove, various plastic bits from things long ago chewed up by lawnmowers, rusted bottle caps, and more). Fire rings were haphazardly around the sites, ours was half full of ashes. The pad was covered in goose poop - which I understand there's a pond close by and nature happens, but the poop was old & crusty. So that, along with the dried up grass clippings, made it clear no one even bothered to take 2 minutes & sweep the pad. There were picnic tables literally on end, scattered around the block. Cable box covers weren't even closed and flapped in the wind. Our block also came with its own scenic mountain of dirt and a frayed clothesline left behind by another guest who knows how long ago. Basically, it was skid row. I actually cried when we pulled up.
The first night, shortly after dark, a gentleman passing by stopped to pee all over the trashcan rack next door (which one of the cans wasn't even inside - just propped against it, still better than one road over where the entire rack was falling down). Later, there were grown men arguing in street (that were way too old to be exchanging f* you's at 12:30 am). I was inside our camper with everything buttoned up and could hear it all clearly. Thankfully, after several minutes of continual yelling, our neighbor (who had a very young child) came out and sternly told them to move on. They did.
The next morning (Saturday) we awoke to another surprise. One of the permanent 5th wheel campers across the field was getting a professional full detail and wax. The sweet purr of the buffer ran off and on all day. Our neighbors left and a maintenance guy arrived to check the site. For a moment I was encouraged! I knew there were several small pieces of trash on the ground, ashes & marshmallow goo in the fire ring from last night, and the peepee trashcan out front was still sitting next to the holder. All remained untouched because he never got out of the truck.
In closing, as you'd probably expect, we won't be back and we won't be recommending the place to anyone. That will always be our very first visit to a non-state park, I had such high hopes. Funny, I had erroneously said to my husband on the way there, "We're finally staying at a real park!" Silly, silly, me. The prior 5 state parks we'd been at blew them out of the water, as have every one since. Turns out state parks are the "real parks" that we get so much enjoyment from visiting. And Treasure Beach? Well, that was simply an overpriced...
Read moreWe arrived to check in and were somewhat confused at the wonky way to the office. When an rv park is this busy you have to dodge incoming vehicles to get checked in. We felt like some better signage other than what was already there would have been helpful.||||To be fair we did stay over the 4th of July weekend and yes we did expect the rv park to be crowded. What we did not count on was all the extra noise especially from the many, many golf carts with an annoying screeching/beeping sound when backing up. Since we stayed across from one of the bath houses that were heavily visited we heard this sound a lot during our stay and really became most annoying after 11pm. Also regarding golf carts, we were shocked and dismayed at how many operators clearly had open containers of alcohol or were underage operators.||||Our campsite was fairly spacious boasting full hookups and a picnic table. The parking pad was gravel and offered a separate area for your truck or guests. Although these amenities were somewhat appreciated, we felt paying over $100/night, a cement poured pad and patio would have been more expected in this price range.||||We had lots of trouble with other guests cutting across our campsite to get to the bathhouse. I guess camping etiquette goes out the window while drinking. I was nervous leaving anything left outside.||||We are always looking for clean rv parks with a neutral camping policy. And by neutral I mean not trying to force a political or personal agenda or idea on its guests. This rv park is clearly NOT one of these. The owners are obviously Trump-Humpers choosing to display this by flying a Trump flag high on a flag pole at the residence ||near the front gate. Not to mention allowing Trump decorated golf carts to circulate blasting music throughout the park. We also have strong feelings about our own political/personal beliefs but feel like a camping/vacation situation is not the forum for such interactions and we felt extremely offended by it.||||The park does have a few nice amenities. Laundry, pool and store are nice amenities to use. However, we visited the store for some souvenirs and grocery items and were very disappointed in the selection of both. The selection of souvenirs was laughable for a 4th of July weekend. Several people we talked with mentioned what a missed opportunity it was.||||We did enjoy the proximity of the park to Ocean City and the Delaware Seashore. Lots of restaurants and Factory Outlet shopping nearby.||||Overall I would give this park a 6 out of 10. Next time for my money the Delaware Seashore seems like a better bang...
Read moreI wasn’t going to leave a review until my experience today in the front office. So, let’s just talk about all the things that aren’t great about this place and then we’ll do things that are nice (there aren’t many).
Firstly, if you are coming off of State Road 1 with an RV during a period of high traffic (think… weekend evening - the time most people arrive). Think again. The turn is a nightmare for RVs because of how tight it is combined with the fact that cars will be blocking or interfering with your wide turn. Consider going a different way (or staying at the state park down the road! It’s cheaper and nicer).
Secondly, this place costs $750/week for a site that’s not even waterfront. That’s almost Florida Keys money (and the keys are much nicer). For that cost I’d expect a nice resort… but think again. The seasonal RVs are so close to each other that it’s uncomfortable to even look at. The site we stayed in was even small and a tight fit. The pool is only open limited hours and the lifeguards are rude… and the pool is basically the only thing this place has besides grumpy staff and music on the weekend. The beach… don’t plan on swimming in it. The water is gross looking, there is a runoff dumping into the beach swimming area, and littered with jellyfish.
Speaking of rude staff, silly me assumed that I could get a small package from Amazon because I full time and I needed to get something. Haha. Think again! I walked into the office after they RTS’d it and they were confused why I would even have a package sent here and told me because of the number of sites “there was no way they could possibly accept packages”. I might add this was expressed in a rude and unsympathetically for someone who needed to get something and was expecting it today… but because the park can’t handle a simple task… they waste people’s time and money. Oh, and by the way, they don’t give you any rules or anything when you come in and they expect you to download a terrible to use and worthless app. So it’s not like you would even know. Almost every park I go to accepts packages and if they don’t, they clearly tell you in the rules because it’s an expected an amenity for full timers who need to get packages occasionally.
Overall I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. I certainly won’t be coming back. Go to Delaware Seashore State Park. A ton cheaper and looks a lot nicer. Not to mention nicer views and cleaner looking water.
Oh, I mentioned that I would talk about nice things. The pool is clean....
