Really tough time trying out Clancy’s tonight. Overall, the food was expensive but reasonable (large portions, flavorful), but we had one of the genuinely worst service experiences of my entire life here tonight.
From the start, our waiter Lery made our party extremely uncomfortable. One of our friends is celiac and has a very serious gluten allergy. When she inquired if there was a separate fryer for the gluten-free food (a typical question to avoid cross-contamination), he was extremely rude and said, “Doesn’t it say gluten free on the menu? Obviously it is.” When our food came out, he specifically called her out and said, “Wait for yours, make sure you don’t even look at anyone else’s, because yours is coming out RIGHT NOW”, in a joking tone, to continue to make fun of her dietary restriction. When she tried to clarify that this was a severe allergy and not a preference, he said, “Wow, she must be the mom, okay boss, okay boss”.
After a series of other uncomfortable exchanges, another one of our friends asked if she could please get a Maitai. He looked at her and laughed and said, “You’re not old enough, no”. He continued to tell her she looked like a child, even though we were all adults in the room. He also asked if our other friend was okay, all because he had ordered two drinks in a two hour dinner period. After he said he was fine, Lery said, “Well I know I’ll be having four later tonight!”
The last situation occurred at the very end of the evening. After these weird exchanges and targeted remarks, we were all very ready to leave. When he was bringing up the bill, he pointed at me directly and asked twice, “Where are you from?”. I should say that I was the only person of color in our table. After I told him, he said back, “I can tell YOU are not from around here”. When I asked why, he said that people on the Cape “look alike” and it was evident that I was different.
All in all, such a disappointing experience when just trying to enjoy a nice dinner at what seemed to be an excellent restaurant. Extremely sad for our party to have received such unfortunate, unprofessional, and inappropriate treatment from a member of this wait staff. What an ugly ending to a beautiful night at a restaurant with a stunning...
Read moreThis is our second time at Clancy’s . I wasn’t overly impressed the first time but thought we’d try again. Busy Monday night but were seated within 10 minutes. We has a nice table in the corner overlooking the Swan River. We weren’t quite ready to order our drinks when our waiter came over. They do have a large drink menu. This was our first problem, our waiter disappeared for a good 10-15 minutes. When he came back we ordered drinks and dinner at the same time. Drinks came in awhile but the order was wrong. My pumpkin martini was excellent and filled to the rim. Unfortunately my wife’s drink was totally wrong. She ordered a vodka tonic with lemon and got a martini. After another wait her drink finally came. It was close to her order but still wrong. She got a lime instead of a lemon in her drink. At this point she didn’t bother to say anything although she really doesn’t like lime.
Dinner came quickly after drinks. My wife’s order was correct and she said it was excellent. She had the salmon well done and she said it was cooked perfectly. I ordered a garden salad with grilled chicken. I hit my salad but no chicken. I obviously mentioned this and the chicken came out promptly but there wasn’t much of it. It was tasty and my salad was good. All in all our bill was $80.00 ( minus tip) for dinner and 2 drinks. Like I said it was ok but not impressive. Clancy’s has been around forever and the vibe is that it survives on a steady flow of locals year round and plenty of tourists in the summer. I wouldn’t say try it or not. I would say judge...
Read moreWe've been coming to Clancy's for a few decades now, although it's been a few years since we've been back. We were pleasantly surprised that the food was as good as it's been in the past. We had found them to be a bit inconsistent for a few years and we will have to see if our next visit is as good as this one was.
The chowder has always been one of our favorites on the Cape. A good mix of clams and potatoes and it's very creamy. The seafood Alfredo was very good. A great amount of all seafood, vs some that go heavy on the fish and light on everything else. I thought the sauce could have used something to create a bit more depth of flavor, but it was creamy and very good. I would order it again. The fish sandwich was delicious. The cheese complimented the fish very well and did not over power it and the fish was crispy and well cooked. The fries were fine but a great portion size. The only real negative was the service. We didn't have enough water the majority of the dinner and did not see our waitress that often. But, the meal was filling and a great portion for the price. We will be happy to return and hope for a repeat on the deliciousness...
