Kilcare Bar and Grill — Restaurant in Denton Township

I have mixed reviews for this place and it was my first visit. I will definitely go back but will not be ordering same for entree. Nice, clean restaurant, with interesting fun decor. Easy going, friendly and helpful staff. Easy to maneuver if in wheelchair or walker - restrooms included. (Deserves 5 🌟 for that rarity alone, lol) Lots of tasty items on menu to choose from. Most items good or priced similar to other local venues. I was with a group of 6 adults at dinner time on a Friday (?) Two of us ordered prime rib, different sized cuts. The rest all had different entrees. I noticed just prior to dinner entrees being doled out that rolls had been served .. but a basket of 4 set in middle of 6 people doesn't work. People don't remember if they get one or not and those that are supposed to don't. I had king-sized prime rib. I have not had prime rib in about 8mos. It was ok but it was bland, not will not ordering on future visits. It definitely did not live up to my expectations. I love steak of any kind, served almost any way. Well to Rare(preferable), but not mooing. The King portion🥩 was not much more than queen and mine was not served rare as I had requested. I understand this is not always possible but am usually told upon ordering. No au jus served but horseradish was which was great. Baked potato was hard, luke warm and overcooked - tough way before outer skin. 🥺 Salad definitely needed to a do-over with a new bag being opened in the kitchen. But dressings were EXCELLENT! I ordered both ranch (🤔real homemade buttermilk ranch? Tasted like it!🥰) and Blue Cheese. The Blue cheese dressing seemed definitely homemade w lots of chunks of blue 🧀 cheese throughout nice creamy dressing. Both ranch and blue cheese dressings had great flavor and made up for the wilted lettuce and large white core chunks of lettuce I had to pick out of my house salad before adding dressings. But by cutting my salad size by at least 1/4, I was able to have left over blue cheese dressing to slather on my dull prime rib! Now when I reread this it sounds horrible, and it wasn't really just definitely not worth $22+ for the dinner. It was just that the prime rib entrees we're lacking au jus a very important part, not cooked as ordered and we not your usual $22+ prime rib dinner that you look forward to and usually walk away smiling, stuffed w a doggie bag in hand!This was dull and was like a different kitchen had prepared it. ?!? All the other entrees we're excellent to amazing! There was a fish dinner ordered. The fish was light and flaky with excellent flavor - not fishy in the least. A huge wonder burger basket w a huge mouthwatering juicy burger served with fixings of choice. The person ordering is a burger connoisseur and they rave about the burgers here! The best though was the deep fried shrimp 🍤 dinner! Oh my Lord there were sooo many huge shrimp I could not believe it! They were cooked deepfried in Panko breadcrumbs and so light and tasty! After a bite I was seriously considering starting dinner over and ordering this dinner! The fries were even cooked to perfection and the green beans side was also amazing! I liked this restaurant, it's atmosphere, decor, and staff. All the food looked and tasted great sans the lettuce in the house salads, and all of the prime rib dinners. Maybe it was just not a good night for prime rib at Kilkares? Bad day for chef? Or kitchen staff member? I was very disappointed in the prime rib entrees but was impressed enough by the looks and taste's of all the others ordered by our group, that I will come back to give this place another shot, but will definitely be ordering that amazing "Big 'big' shrimp 🍤 Dinner"! It was was 4-5 stars in everything but food - that I would say 3stars, due to all the salads and out prime ribs, and potatoes entrees.🥺 I also snuck a few weeks at bar and Kilkares bar looked like it might be a nice place to stop in for a drink sometime. Nice...

UPDATE: Still the best place in the area (and beyond) for GREAT SERVICE, FOOD, & SUDS. The waitresses are freaking hilarious, adorable, super attentive, and sweet as can be!

I was teasing the waitress and said, "Can you make my mixed drink look manly? Because my wife wants a beer and I can't have everyone thinking she wears the pants in the relationship.".

Hilariously, she brings back my drink with a fruity looking umbrella in it. We were cracking up. Awesome stuff guys. Management, you need to keep those ladies... they are killing it. Bravo! I wish I could recall our gal's name... but what a character! Lol

Also, side note - the Ribs are fall off the bone delicious...

If you just come for the food, you really won't be disappointed.

If this place could update the inside eating area (it's REALLY outdated), this place would go gangbusters because the food is absolutely OUTSTANDING.

It's almost like the main emphasis is making the bar area appealing when I would argue that you can get liquor quite literally anywhere. Personally, I think the bar should be an after-thought, and they should make this place look like more of an inviting restaurant that it wants to be. Because again, the food is unreal.

First, let me address the fried mushrooms with Blue Cheese dressing appetizer.

They are absolutely COLOSSAL in size. Almost disturbingly so... like: "Did they get these mushrooms from Chernobyl" kind of disturbing... but in a good way??

Each one is about 3/4 the size of a tennis ball, no exaggeration.

Plus, they give you a TON of them. It was just my wife and I, and we couldn't finish them, got through half and we were starving. Barely got through our meals too, and were stuffed to the gills.

I've honestly never in my life seen a place actually kill it with portion size, especially on an appetizer. Usually places barely give you anything and charge a stupid amount for it. Not this place. Holy cow.

Onto the blue cheese. We came here because I read a review about how delicious it was. I was like, "We'll see..."

They weren't wrong. If you like blue cheese, you will adore this stuff. I'm not entirely convinced it's not the lighthouse brand in the jar, very thick with huge chunks of blue cheese in it, but this tastes even better than that. My wife even said it's the best she's ever had. I agree.

It has a lot of dill in it too, which just makes it taste even better. Trust me, if you're a fan of blue cheese you'll love it.

The cheese soup they have? OMG... Absolutely scrumptious. I only got a cup because she pointed to someone having a bowl and it was GIGANTIC...

I thought, no way can I eat that much. One bite in I regretted that decision because of how good it was.

So, in closing, if you come for the food and a few laughs, you really won't go away hungry or...

This place is usually pretty busy. They offer prime rib on every Friday and Saturday. Unfortunately, they must only cook 1 prime rib and a handful of steaks on purpose. 3 times I went there, 3 times they say they were sold out. If you sell out of a product, 30 min after you start serving it, with well less than 60 people in your place, it's either a ploy to get customers, or poor management. If you do like steak, make sure you ask them to salt and pepper and season it, or you will get a charred piece of tough meat. I really dislike ripping business's apart, but same experience 3/3. A 20 min wait for a seat, just to find out they bait and switch you? It just doesn't seem like ethical business practice. I literally heard the wait staff tell over 60 people that they still out really fast, maybe buy more than one crockpot? Lol... The wait staff is exceptional however, and very attentive, they really make you feel comfortable. Otherwise I would be giving 0 stars if I could. This is just my opinion, based on facts relative to me and my large family. I would not recommend this place, unless you need a coffee or a drink maybe. Head to Shakers, or Little Boots if you want constantly great food.

UPDATE* I came back 4 years later. Wait staff is still amazing, however the"famous wings" are the most horrible wings I've ever eaten. I'll never go back to this place again. How do you mess up wings? The fried then so long the meat was stuck to the bone, and bone hard, like enough to cut up the roof of your mouth while eating them. please save yourself the time, go elsewhere. I WISH this place improved, but it's just hopeless in my opinion. The food is inconsistent, and just not good, unless I'm ordering the wrong items. If a place is going to brag about an item, they should probably be able to at least pretend they care about how the item turns out. I will say the pretzel stick appetizer was really really good. The wings were just such...
