Can't do it with the stars, but I'd give a 3 1/2 out of 5 stars. These axe throwing places are popping up all over and I wanted to throw a birthday party for my 46 yr old husband. As I looked at all the places, this one was the least expensive (with Groupon) Since I was paying for our guests, this was a no brainer for me. I did try to call AND email this business prior to purchasing the tickets with no answer. I ended up having friends purchase the Groupon under their names and mine for a total of 16 people. We booked our parties for 6pm on a Saturday about 4 weeks in advance. The week of the party, I had more guests want to go. I went to this place to see if that was okay. They were booked for the time I wanted. I let the guy onsite know that the 3 confirmations were for 1 party and asked to be together. He seemed fine with that. I also emailed to let them know as well. I had a total of 21 people show but only 16 throw. We were in the 1st lane, so our guest that didn't throw could sit on the side and watch.
Here is what DID GO WELL: All of my guests had a great time! We went over safety. The games kept us all involved for the 90 mins we were throwing. Beer onsite, but limited stock. Host kept the games going and kept score. The host also kept the 'cheaters' at bay by going up to the target and verifying where the axe landed. Apparently you can bring food, but we were unaware. That would be a nice bonus! Free popcorn too.
Here is what DIDN'T GO WELL: There is no one to check people in. We all arrived 30 mins early to fill out waivers, but no one could tell us what to/how to do that until 5 mins before start time. If there was a 'front desk' person, they could sell more beverages and make you feel welcomed. We seen someone standing behind the front desk and took 2 Gatorades out of the cooler to pay for them. He made me feel like a child getting in trouble, asking, "does your host know you are over here?" I told him we had been there for 20 mins with no host, so no... The bathrooms are outside. Yes, ladies...port-o-potties! I'll hold it! The website should mention this so we could use the facilities prior to coming. May I suggest Purell dispensers around the place... Our host, "chop it like its hot" or Jess (I think) was not prepared for this group. We were not mean or rude to her at all. It took her about 45 mins to warm up to our humor. We felt it took way to long to show the 16 people how to throw. Our group would chant "wet the wood" to get her to do just that. We noticed some of the other hosts "goofing" around with their guests, but not ours. The wooden door stop got kicked out somehow and some of our party and another's party got locked out. Being that there is no front desk person, they had to wait outside until someone went out to go to the bathroom.
Bottom line, I would go back so long as I can purchase the tickets on Groupon. If I paid more, I would have been upset with the...
Read moreRead the reviews and purchased a Groupon. Perhaps that was my error. We arrived and there is no place to park. My sister had to park her BMW Xdrive X35i in the mud. Needless to say, we were not off to a good start. We arrived inside to sign waivers only to find out that we could only sign an electronic waiver. Given the fact that we had 2 I.T. folks in our group - this did not go over well either. There should have been an option to sign a waiver on paper and not just electronically. We purchased a Groupon for a "public" 90 minute session with 4 people. We had to "share" our training with some family we did not know that had 2x the amount of people. This effectively reduced the amount of time we had to practice and partake of the axe throwing fun. Yes, learning to throw the axe was the best part of the day (we went on the 4th at 12:00). The surly employee who clearly did not think the customer is always right was the "unfun" part. I explained that we had not anticipated needing to deal with some other family we did not know (8 people) when the Groupon was purchased. The employee did NOT listen to my concerns, gave some "idiot" stock answer and did not address the issue. We practiced with the "family of 8" participants which effectively cut the time we purchased in half! We practiced as individual groups for approximately 15 minutes, and then he blended the 2 groups (repeat: we did NOT know one another) for the so-called games. This type of activity is designed for an extrovert personality - not for a group of computer geeks who just wanted to try something different. After the 1st game, I told the stature challenged dude, we did not wish to participate in another game and was ignored. The 3 members of my party are not confrontational people so I was on my own. The Groupon as presented does not fully explain what "Public" is - but if you do not like having to spend time with people you don't know - don't purchase the Groupon from this vendor. We left a little early because the overall...
Read moreAmazing experience! This place is for you if you need to blow off some steam, have fun with friends, or just wanna throw an axe. We had the entire facility to ourselves because the Avalanche and Rockies were both playing home games. The staff helped us settle in with beverages and essentials.
Our instructor was fire! He fed off our energy and vice versa. After about 10 throws we all felt like experts and flew through the different games they offered. The fun really started after the games ended. Our instructor showed us trick throw after trick throw. He threw it all at us, pun intended. Didn’t even know you could throw an axe like a javelin, or that I could do a no-look behind the back throw to name a few. At the end of our session everyone from our group could throw dual wielded axes and successfully stick the board. Great time. It’s hard to express how satisfying it is to throw duel wield axes. Before we left our instructor stuck the bullseye after throwing from WELL beyond the approved throwing area, like I said, guy was FIRE!
