My husband and I have really tried to support this restaurant over the past few years, because we were excited to have a good sushi option in our neighborhood and their sushi is great. But their service sucks. The first few times we visited within an hour of their closing time, they gave us attitude and acted offended that we would give them business so close to the time they wanted to close up shop. So we started accommodating them and would order well in advance of closing so as not to piss off the staff or be treated rudely over the phone, which is problematic on its own.

But the last straw for us was being charged a 20% service fee for a takeout order that we placed last weekend. I understand their policy of charging a 20% service fee for dine-in orders so the staff gets compensated, fair enough. But why are they charging a 20% service fee for takeout orders?? What service are we paying for when we are picking up our own order and not being served? When food costs are already skyrocketing, having to pay an extra 20% on a takeout order is unacceptable and cost them...

As someone who has tried many sushi establishments in Denver at this point, I was very sad about the closing of Sushi Sasa, one of the most consistently excellent restaurants in the city. Tai Tai is a small but just as excellent sushi bar from the same owner that brings all of the freshness and flavor Sasa had with some new unique items in a more intimate and cozy setting. The fish is fresh, there are several vegan/vegetarian options on the menu, and everything tasted exceptional. Worth checking out the desserts as well which have unique flavors like the chestnut mousse. I felt like the prices were generally very good, but the lunch specials especially were very generous for the price. Not to mention the chef-owner Wayne, who has decades of experience working in and operating sushi restaurants in Denver, and his staff who always provide outstanding customer service. Highly recommend checking...

Editing this review (again) because I continue coming back every time I visit Denver for work or to see friends, and Wes and everyone at Tai Tai continue to be the absolute best! Counting the days until we move back and this restaurant is one of the biggest things I look forward to!

Had to amend my review because quite honestly this might be my favorite restaurant I've found while living in Denver, and is certainly one of the saddest parts about leaving. Simply put, the excellence of not just the food, but all of the staff as well, is absolutely phenomenal and is worth mentioning all on its own before even acknowledging the amazing value received for the price. I look forward to coming back when I visit Denver...

Ok, soooo, I'm so excited to write this review because my favorite restaurant, Sushi Sasa closed permanently. My favorite rolls EVER, were the Scottish Salmon and Pink Lady. My friends and I were so sad to hear that Sushi Sasa closed. Just yesterday, we visited this place after finding out the same chef works there, and my goodness... The food was absolutely amazing! We started with the crazy spicy cucumber, which is moldy spicy, then ordered the blue fin tuna nigiri and yellow tail nigiri. The blue fin tuna melted like butter.. God damn.. We ofcourse/obviously ordered the Scottish Salmon and Pink Lady roll, then ended our meal with the eel handroll, which was fabulous! Eel is hit or miss for me, but this one was amazing!

This is not your typical sushi experience! (In a great kind of way!) The food was incredibly fresh, delicate, and delectable; the service was attentive, grounded, and kind; and the decor and ambiance were classy and charming. Everything we tried was wonderful: * The dragon roll * The pink lady roll * The philly roll * A few handrolls (spicy tuna, Rocky mountain, unagi). Btw, "open-faced style" has a presentation and composition, and is worth a try. * House made dessert (tonight, we had a banana custard mousse, which was delicious) So glad we discovered this place!

Everything here is better than expected, even the little stuff like the quality of the wooden chop sticks, the aged soy sauce, and the vermouth they use in cocktails. Chef is not playing around . It is Sushi Sasa (Head chefs previous restaurant) level detail in a very small (22 chairs I counted (12 at the bar and 4 tables -3 2tops, one 4top) room. The food is exceptional. Wagyu was incredible, toro was like butter. The spicy cucumber appetizer was delicious. Expect to pay for the experience although service is included in the bill. No tipping necessary.
