Bensi — Restaurant in Denville

Served raw chicken!! My wife, 2 year old daughter and I went here to dinner tonight. We sat and ordered our food. A the waiter came to our table after se waited for 10 minutes to take our drink order. Shortly after the owner or manager walked over and took our food order which was strange. My wife and daughter ordered pasta and I went with the stuffed chicken pomadoro. The meal both adult meals came with a salad or soup. It took over 50! I repeat 50 minutes to get a soup and salad. Another 25 minutes later our dinner came. The stuff chicken came in two separate rolls. I ate the first one and thought the chicken was rubbery. I cut open the second piece and the chicken was not cooked at all! I immediately notified the manager and he said “ohh, it’s cooked just a little under” I pointed to the chicken again and said that it’s raw uncook chicken! It looked like the just put Sauce on a chicken breast and tried to serve it too me. The cheese in the middle wasnt melted or cold….He then said “ohh that must have happened because it was rolled up.” He offered to get me something else and I politely said no thank you. Our waiter then came over and asked if everything was to our liking and I told him what had happened. He politely apologized and returned with our bill and the chicken I ordered was removed. My wife then took the bill and told the staff were not paying and that I most likely was going to have food poisoning. The manager shrugged his shoulders like “ohh well” and said call me if...

We planned on ordering Christmas Eve dinner so I called before 2pm to see how much time to allow before pickup at 6. Following their suggestion, I called in our order for five dinners at 4pm. My husband and daughter left at 5:45 to pick up the order. By 6:30 we began to worry that we hadn't heard from them. We called and discovered that the food wasn't ready and they were "working on it." When questioned about the delay, they were asked about the phone number it was under and what was ordered; obviously.it wasn't prepared. And all the pickup orders that they were sending out were in the teens while ours was #89, even though I had called it in hours earlier. No one offered an explanation or suggested they go sit at the bar while they waited. My husband, who has issues with his foot, was unable to stand after half an hour and went to sit in the car, leaving our daughter to wait alone. It was over an hour late when the order was finally ready. By the time they got it home, everyone was upset about the situation and the poor treatment by Bensi's employees. We can't even say the meal was anything more than pretty good because we were so hungry we just started eating. I expected better from Bensi. If they had the courtesy to explain that there was a problem or had shown a little concern, our reaction would not have been so negative. The whole incident was unacceptable. We've been to Bensi before at other locations, so we had specific expectations. Unfortunately, our experience was subpar, and we aren't likely to ever return. Our disappointment comes from both the bleak atmosphere and unsatisfactory adult entrees.

The main dining area provokes the feeling of dining in an impersonal corporate conference room. The rectangular room features almost no decor to mention while the acoustics in the room make it loud with little ability to hear any music playing. If you are seeking even an average Italian dining experience, Bensi is not for you.

Our children ordered ravioli and chicken fingers, and they seemed to enjoy the food. Our salads and soup were also of acceptable taste and quality. However, my wife and I both ordered Salmon Escarole, and after a few bites, we both independently concluded to contract the culinary experience. We concurred that both the texture and unexpected fishy flavor of the salmon was not normal and certainly not desirable.

While the service team was efficient and friendly, the food quality and restaurant atmosphere are too far below expectations to recommend this...
