I had been passing this place for a few months and was avoiding it because I thought it was just an old, greasy donut / hot dog place. So imagine my surprise when my husband and I finally stop in for a light lunch and I discover that it is a clean place with an array of pastries, donuts, bagels, teas and coffees (I'm not a coffee drinker, but I was impressed.) We each ordered sandwiches. I was going to get a tea (I'm a herbal tea person.) but changed my mind, so my husband requested water. The counter person asked if we wanted bottled. We said no, just tap. When we paid, we were charged $12 for two small sandwiches, no pickle or small side of cole slaw, etc. The bread was supermarket sliced. My egg, cheese and bacon sandwich contained so little cheese, that I didn't remember if I had ordered it with cheese... Anyway, it was okay. We were also given two cups of water with ice, which I thought was generous. While eating, I realized that our simple, small lunch seemed pricey. Most egg, cheese and bacon sandwiches in delis or fast food places cost about 3.50. BLT sandwich would be about $5. My husband decided to ask about prices, since cost of sandwiches was not posted in the shop. It turned out that we were charged for the tap water. Not a big deal. However, I do have a problem with a shop not letting its customers know that there is a charge for tap water. I felt like it was sneaky and a bit underhanded. We were also charged $7 for the BLT sandwich, which I thought was an overcharge, since we did not order drinks. Again very sneaky and unprofessional. After lunch, we had planned to buy pastries and donuts to bring home, so the nickel and dime this establishment practiced actually lost them more than the price of some tea or coffee.. lol. Btw, I get a feeling this place caters to the locals (even thought we are local, though new local.) and regulars. They would have had more regulars, if they didn't passive aggressively...
Read moreTired of chain coffee and drive-thru disappointment? If you're in the Derby, CT area, skip the fast-food joints and head straight for Heav'nly Donuts. This local, independently owned gem proves that top-notch quality and perfect service are still alive and well in the Valley.
For years, this spot was my essential morning ritual, and specifically, for one reason: the perfect Bacon, Egg, and Cheese sandwich. It is miles better than anything a standard fast-food place can offer, the ingredients are higher quality and everything just tastes fresh.
But the real, game-changing consistency comes down to the coffee. Heav'nly Donuts knows how to make a genuinely good-tasting cup of coffee, and more importantly, they nail the order every single time. Unlike my frustration at the Dunkin' right down the street, I never once had to return to Heav'nly to ask them to remake my coffee without sugar. That kind of accurate, reliable service is truly priceless when you're rushing into work.
Heav'nly Donuts isn't just for starting your day; it’s the perfect place to satisfy an afternoon craving, too. Their Vanilla Cream donut is, fittingly, heavenly, a sweet, creamy delight that is worth every calorie.
I know the exterior of the building may look a bit dated, but please don't let that fool you. The quality, service, and product inside are absolutely top-notch. There is truly nothing better than supporting an independently owned small business that cares this much about what they serve.
If you value consistency, quality ingredients, perfect order accuracy, and the charm of a local spot, Heav'nly Donuts is a must-try. Give them a shot, you won't regret leaving the corporate...
Read moreAfter passing this place my entire life, I decided to finally stop in and check it out. I bought 2 donuts and a frozen coffee drink for nearly 8 bucks which I thought was pricey but was willing to pay for high quality food and friendly service. I didn't receive either. Younger girl who begrudgingly served me did so as if I was bothering her by patronizing her business. Dining area was empty which revealed the dirt and grime that covered the ceiling to the floor and all signs and countertops in between. I wish this review took a turn for the better when it came to the food and drink. It doesn't. Donuts were good but small and no better than Dunkin or any other donut shop I've been to. Despite being on the daily special menu, the frozen coffee drink tasted like warm milk and Kahlua, strong alcohol aftertaste and all, presumably from long expired ingredients. The bottom half of the small cup consisted of 3 large chunks of ice due to improper blending-a small cup I paid 5 dollars for mind you. As a small donut shop that's been open for so long, I hoped for excellent food and service and would've happily settled for decency. Instead I was met with a very unhappy employee and a drink that ended up down the sink. Wished I could've received the pleasant experiences found in some of the positive...
