Prepare to be whisked away to the days of yore, where my grandfather and the Irish Community would gather and create memories that have become the stuff of legends. I've been a loyal customer of this nostalgic haven since I was knee-high to a grasshopper, and let me tell you, the place hasn't changed a bit. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with warmth and friendliness that's as comforting as their classic counter service. And guess what? The legendary Anthony Bourdain himself paid a visit! If it's good enough for him, it's good enough for all of us.
Let's talk about the setup of this time capsule diner. Now, don't expect any frills or froufrou at Duly's. It's the epitome of simplicity, and that's what makes it so darn charming. One of the things I love most about Duly's is the diverse crowd it attracts. People from all walks of life gather here to savor the flavors of the past and create new memories. It's a place where stories are shared, laughter fills the air, and the love for good food brings everyone together.
Oh, and here's a handy tip for fellow time travelers: Duly's is open 24 hours a day, so you can satisfy your cravings at any hour. But remember, they only accept cash, adding to the authentic experience and keeping the nostalgia alive.

Read moreCame to Detroit for sightseeing, only to accidentally step into the so-called legendary Coney dog war. Apparently the locals are still undecided on which place deserves the title of the best Coney dog in town.
Due to unplanned circumstances, Duly's was the first place we visited. And considering that Anthony Bourdain also visited this joint, I'd say that we made a fortuitous discovery. The joint has the old school diner vibe, like being frozen in time. For the best experience, sit on the counter and enjoy friendly banter with the locals.
So how does Duly's stack up in the war? The locals consider this place to be number 3 in town. I found Duly's Coney dog to be the messiest, due to the generous dollop of chili our host dropped on top of the hot dog. There was no way we could eat the Coney dog with our hands, so we resorted to fork and knife like a total newbie. The sausage was not special, but the chili was tasty and comforting. We loved it so much that we ordered an extra helping of chili.
I also ordered the hamburger steak for brunch, which came with generous stash of potatoes and salad. The hamburger was okay, but when combined with chili, every bite became an incredible experience. That chili really goes well with anything! I think Duly's is a strong contender in the Coney dog war, and should deserve as much exposure as the...

It took us ages to find a place to get cash but that’s not their fault at all. Just plan in advance for that. We had a large group (7) and I was very gratified to find we could all sit at the bar on a Tuesday at 945 am. There’s probably seating for 25 in the entire building so that was great for us. The prices shown on a menu board in the photos are not current but our whole group still at for less than $60. Everything was cooked well, but you have to season to taste. We ordered strictly breakfast. My over medium eggs - which people regularly mess up - were perfect. My husband’s breakfast ham was delicious. My daughter’s friend said that was some of the best French toast she’d ever had. No frills, very straight forward. DO NOT touch the underside of the bar. Just trust me. People like the Anthony Bourdain novelty factor and that’s cool too. I would never specifically seek it out again but service was fast, the bathroom was clean, and food was...
