4/12/25 Excellent Alambres Hala steak Kabo and new dinette table settings! 5/24, El Asador is now doing door dash! Excelente! 3/29/23 El Asador has a new menu for lunch. They are closed Mondays but serve lunch Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00am to 2:00, They close after 2:00 to switch over to dinner entrees that begin at 4:00pm. Lunch Speciality is for tacos so we gave them a try! As usual excellent with generous portion of beans and rice as well. OLE!! Two tacos of many varieties with rice, beans and corn chips all for under $10 bucks! Are you kidding me! 2/14/23 Valentine’s day at El Asador. We had 6:00 pm reservations and the place was packed! Alex quickly seated us and we were memorized by the specials on fancy placards on every table. Since it is a BYOB we splurged on a few glasses of Cabernet Sauvignon. We always tip extra when we do this. The special for me was Surf and Turf. Absolutely mouth watering Lobster tail that was removed, sautéed and place back into its shell. This entree coupled with his famous Halal steak topped with a Roasted Poblano pepper was magnificent. There was was also a generous portion of his grilled seasonal vegetables green beans . The Salad was fresh, cold and served quickly out to the table by Alex. The other special was fried lamb chops, also new. Those will be in the radar next time, My wife ordered Mexican flavored Halal steak Shisk kabob known as Alambres served over white rice with a side of borracho bean stew. For soup we enjoyed Mama Garza's delicious Poblano. Life is good. Chef Luis has added many variations of Lobster as well. So much good food, so little time. Reservations highly recommended as they stay extra busy with Halal meats served with such flavors.

My friend wanted Mexican, and then said she wanted Steak. I thought both sounded great so I’m so glad I stumbled across this hidden gem. We made reservations which from what I could tell is highly encouraged. Ample street parking and a parking lot in the back. There’s a beautiful mural in the back lot as well painted in 2015 from an artist on the east coast. The restaurant is small and quaint, very cute and no frills. Alma was our amazing waitress. They also allow you to BYOB without a corking charge so long as it’s not hard liquor. The Guacamole En La Mesa was amazing and some of the freshest I ever had. From what I’ve seen they usually serve it table side, however on a busy Saturday evening it’s totally understandable for them to simply make it fresh in the back or towards the side to not be in the way of everything. Our waitress made sure we never ran out of chips at our table too. The soup of the day was a Creamy Poblano which was so flavorful. For entrees we ordered the Fajitas with Steak, Chicken, & Shrimp, the Ribeye Steak con Rojas, and I had to get the Filet Minion with Three Chili Butter Sauce. Everyone seemed to really enjoy their meal, and I can confidently say the Filet Minion is easily in my top 3 best Filets I’ve ever had. The Three Chili Butter Sauce really elevated the already great flavor of the Filet itself. Both steaks were perfectly charred on the edges, and cooked as ordered. Overall it was such an amazing experience and I already cannot wait to go back!

I had a wonderful experience at El Asador. Don't like the exterior fool you. Driving up, the building is very unassuming and you might wonder whether you want to go in. Rest assured, you will be rewarded well! Atmosphere is almost as important as the food quality and service and once you're inside, the atmosphere is very welcoming and comfortable. The server, who might have been one of the owners or a manager, was very friendly and patient and helpful in choosing what to eat. You must start with the fresh guacamole which they serve mild, medium, or spicy. I had spicy and it was indeed as spicy as I wanted it. I might try medium next time to see the difference. For my meal, I ordered the grilled chicken and it came with a delicious poblano and cream soup with some melted cotilla cheese in it. Very mild and exceptionally tasty without being overdone. The chicken was tender, flavorful and juicy. The roasted potatoes had garlic and pan drippings which gave them a natural flavor, and the green beans had been sauteed with onions and tomatoes, very similar to Greek green beans. Nothing could have been any better from the food to the service to the atmosphere. It's definitely worth your time and I will be returning on a future visit to Detroit! FYI - they don't serve alcohol, so be aware of this. Not sure if you can bring your own, but honestly I didn't even miss it because of how good the food was.

I share the sentiment of the other lower honest reviews. I drove a half hour to get here expecting something special. Having worked in restaurants of all calibers, I'm well aware of what constitutes and commands certain prices. This is not up to par. Chips and salsa, while free, were nothing special. I ordered the ribeye MR and it came with two sides, of which I picked the veggies and red rice. Also comes with a salad, which I picked caesar and was informed there was a $2 up charge. Ok...for what...it has less ingredients and produce lol. Anyway, caesar comes out, romaine, probably bottled dressing, and parmesan out of a shaker I'm sure. Not impressed, especially for the upcharge. Steak comes out with sides. Lackluster presentation, rice was formed and also plain, and veggies seemed mic'd with too much butter and garlic/salt. Steak was MR but was cold and seemed like a thin cheap grocery store grade of meat, with horrible fat to grain content. Nothing about it said wow this is some special Mexican food. Honestly this restaurant should be under a 4 star on Google, it isn't awful but it isn't worth the prices they're charging. Even Texas Roadhouse has a better ribeye, and that's sad. If you're from out of town just know that their rating is inflated, and so are their prices. Glad my company paid for the meal or I'd be a little more disappointed. I'm usually not so opinionated about these reviews but I hope the restaurant uses this feedback to step their game up to the level of their supposed 4.5 star rating or at minimum other patrons...

Two things: -Make sure you have cash -If you're going on a Friday or Saturday, make sure you make reservations or else the waitresses catch an attitude.

The first time I came here, I called few days before because I saw reviews that mentioned making reservations. I was told I didn't need a reservation and could just dine in the day I was planning on coming in. The day I went in, the overall experience was very pleasant. The waitress (whose name I cannot remember right now) and a gentleman went above and beyond. And the food was GREAT! Their card machine was down and for the inconvenience they applied a 10% discount to my bill. Luckily I had cash and it all worked out that day.

But today, nothing worked out. The waitress that greeted us at the door was very rude. She asked if we had a reservation and we told her no. As soon as she heard the word 'no' her attitude changed. She then started telling us how on Friday's and Saturday's reservations are needed, also it's sweetest day so it's busier, etc. I understood this and felt kind of stupid for not making reservations. Then, she takes us to a table and tells us "since you're dining in you'll have an hour worth of time", to which we said that's fine. We sit down and then she comes back and tells us "we're only taking cash". She didn't even apologize. I literally had to get up and walk out. It seems like every time I come here I have to make sure I have cash.

I just need to say that not everyone here is like the lady I experienced today. Hopefully you'll have the nice lady I had the first...
