Paul's Pizza — Restaurant in Detroit

My boyfriend and I come here somewhat regularly. Good food, but I’m pretty disappointed with the customer service I received today. All I ate yesterday was a veggie pizza from here for dinner around 7 pm and by midnight I was feeling pretty ill, unable to sleep. I ended up getting sick in the middle of the night and have continuously been sick since then (it’s noon as I write this).

I’ve worked restaurants and I totally get it that stuff happens sometimes but I decided to give them a call to let them know what happened calmly just so they can check whatever they need to check to make sure all of their ingredients and food prep is good. I purposely said that I wasn’t calling to make a big deal or make trouble, that I just wanted them to be aware. The guy I spoke with interrupted me as I explained the situation saying he was the superintendent I guess? And that “that’s impossible because all of the ingredients are fresh so there is no way”. He was pretty dismissive and rude considering the situation. I was calm and understanding when I could’ve been a real A-hole over something like this.

I believe their ingredients are fresh and they make good food. Unfortunately in the food service industry, sometimes things happen. Mistakes happen, cross contamination can happen no matter how careful you are. I think if a customer calls to inform you of something like this, you should be understanding and empathetic, not automatically jump to being defensive. I guess I can only hope he took me serious enough to at least tell the cooks to make sure they are extra careful in their preparation.

So yeah, good food but I don’t think I’ll be returning after...

Paul's giant extra large party pizza extra cheese and pepperoni is always a number one for a party or just for a Friday night big family gathering feeds about 8 smashers of fam, & leftovers is pretty good and the house salad w/ chicken breast , gots vegetables cucums ,tomato w/ranch ..so good...that's is another favorite of mine and they're double bacon cheeseburger deluxe is good extra fries would be great they really measure their food when it comes to Fry's for some reason...** cup n half is fair.....lol j.k ;) but everything's deliciously made and cooked well as liked ,and they have more option on the new menu then what they had back in the 90s, :) their fish dinners are always on point delicious I don't know if they still have coconut shrimp but that was also tasty, pauls in vernor in Detroit is pretty good at keeping everything in stock also so they work hard a pleasing custos ... SPECIAL something specific I like the Lasagna really homemade imma homemade taste to it I believe it is really homemade LOL ,,very THICK bunch of layers a lot of cheese ricotta cheese Mozzarella grilled tomato and hamburger W/PASTA RED SAUCE towed with chesse , 😋 YUMMY it's just like home style...LOL ... I believe they make it like HOMEMADE...LOL YA THEY DO...but the place has been around forever and everybody ik in sw Detroit & metro area goes up there ,...so something they're doing right , thanks Paul's Pizza STAFF FOR BEING THERE DURING PANDEMIC ! Update: I wrote my original 4 star review after ordering through DoorDash. I took away 1 star because I tried to place a second order and it said my address is out of the service area for this restaurant. So, the app wouldn't accept my order. Uh ... pretty sure that's the POINT of ordering through DoorDash. I live 15 mins walktime from Downtown and if I got my food the first time, why not the second??? It took almost all of quarantine, but I finally found a place where I'm impressed by the flavor of the chili cheese fries! Highly recommend you try it but with extra cheese cuz there wasn't much on there to start with.

I also had a rib and chicken combo plate. The thin membrane on the back of the ribs wasn't removed before cooking so that made it hard to tear even though the ribs were cooked well. I didn't like the bbq sauce, either. Then again, I adore Sweet Baby Rays bbq sauce. So, I could be biased.

The broasted chicken has a coating on it. Just an FYI if you're like me and wasn't expecting that. I've had broasted chicken from other places it never had a coating, so I didn't know that sometimes it does.

Bottom Line: I WILL be ordering from this place again. More chili cheese fries and I want try out...
