Before dining in, I asked the wonderful hostess (very nice & professional young woman) their gratuity policy and she informed me that there was no mandatory gratuity for parties of 5 or less. I had a party of 4. (My receipt says 6 for some reason which is a complete lie !) Nevertheless, when the initial $240 bill came, I was only then informed that my party was not allowed to separate the checks and that despite what I was told, this $42 service charge was going to be on my bill and the manager literally argued back and forth with me insisting that the gratuity was non-negotiable and that these service charges are the only way he can keep his employees paid and restaurant open, I then explained to him that I ALSO work a 9-5 and I specifically asked about gratuity prior to dining in. After arguing with him for several minutes I decided to just let him know that I would be paying the bill WITHOUT the "suggested mandatory non-negotiable service charges". He proceeded to "inform" me that they would be taking license plate numbers if we refused to pay. Ironically, after paying the amount that I felt was fair...the charge was dropped from my bill AND I was given change. I find it extremely frustrating and unprofessional that I had to argue with management about something he claimed was "impossible" and non-negotiable. Of course, I tipped my server because he was a good server. However, I did not appreciate the "professionalism" of the management and it was a very poor reflection of this establishment.

This spot is a true Detroit classic, known for its prime location and stunning views of the Detroit River. Valet parking is a great option, but there’s also $3 self-parking if you prefer. I’ve been here a few times for dates and family events, and the vibe is always on point—chic with a touch of old-school charm. The seafood platter was fresh, lightly breaded, and well-seasoned, but the rest of the menu could use some work. The sides, in particular, were a letdown—my green beans were barely cooked, and the baked potato was just okay. I’d love to see a wider variety of platters and more thoughtfully prepared sides. For the price, I also wish the portions were more generous. On a brighter note, the drinks were a highlight! I had a Lemon Drop and a Bourbon Sour, and both were delicious and fairly priced. As for the service, the staff seemed a bit stressed, but to be fair, it was a busy night. Overall, while there’s room for improvement, it’s still a classic spot worth visiting.

I decided to order lunch from Sinbads Restaurant and Marina. This is an undercoooked catfish sandwich that Sinbads sold me. I called the restaurant and they offered to remake it which I agreed. When I went back up there I sat at the bar on the end where I could see straight back in the kitchen. While waiting, I observed the cook preparing the food with his bare hands. I then asked for the manager to get a refund. The manger told me the order was prepared already (in other words you HAVE to take this order) and had given me every excuse under the sun not to give my money back. The guy working behind he bar asked the manager what was the big issue of giving me a refund. At this point the guy working behind the bar, pulled the money from his pocket and gave the money back for my order. He knew that manager wasn’t right. Sinbads will never have to worry about me ordering anything else from there😡

If I could give this place a “0” I would! Let’s start with the fact they make you valet your car. That is a money grab because the parking lot is right in front of the building. In addition, waiting for my car after dinner was the biggest waste of time because I could have walked to my car in 10 seconds.

I came here with a group of 5 on 8/18 around 7pm. We asked the hostess if the check could be split and he agreed that with five individuals and under the checks could be split. The group ordered drinks and two of the ladies hated their lemon drops. I had a sip of one of their drinks and it was terrible, the liquor was Burnetts cheap. The two ladies sent their drinks back to get top shelf liquor in them. One lady had a fruit fly in hers and the other lady still hated her drink and decided not to drink it. The drink with the fruit fly was replaced with a different drink but it was still disliked so she decided not to drink it.

We ordered around 7:30pm and the food came out around 8:20pm. The wait was pretty long considering there were only three other tables with small groups. The place was pretty empty. We were never offered bread until we asked. One of the ladies ordered her chicken sandwich fried but she received it broiled. Another woman ordered shrimp and the batter was almost white and she said there was no seasoning. Her broccoli was inedible.

Time for the check to come out and it is on one check. We let the waitress know the check was supposed to be split. It takes almost 30 minutes for the check to be split 5 ways. By this time the restaurant is closed and we are the only table left. The waitress was clearly in distress with trying to split the check. The manager started to get upset with her to the point it looked like she wanted to cry. He did very little to help her and sat down to watch a game on the TV while she was still trying to split the check. She came back with the checks split but the drinks the two ladies found disgusting and did not drink were still on the checks. The waitress had to get the managers approval to remove the drinks .When the waitress came back to the table one of the ladies asked to speak to the manager because of the extensive time we had to wait while he watched the game and barely offered his staff support. It is around 9:15pm and the situation was explained to the Manager ,Mark, from the beginning to how long it took to split the check. He blamed it on the new system they have and that is why they do not allow checks to be split anymore. One of the waitresses coworker said that she was new. I brought that up to the manager and said she needed some additional support with the system instead of him watching the game while she was struggling. He advised that he was not going to use that as an excuse because she had been there for five months. Another lady at the table let him the waitress looked so stressed and may have been crying. The manager says she was not crying and we must have wanted her to cry and he stormed away from the table. We found out that he is the owners son and it made sense as to why he behaved the way he did and how poorly he treated the staff. The owner should reconsider his son being Manager before he runs his establishment into the ground. As we were leaving we saw Mark frantically pressing the button to an elevator so that he could avoid us. By far the worst dining experience I...

It started off pleasant. I sat at the bar. Although spirit options have fallen off, I settled on an old favorite. Ordering food did not go as well. The young lady who took my order was obviously distracted by something about me. Did I owe her money in a previous life? The clam chowder was thick and not creamy at all. Sounds odd but no way to describe it better unless they been serving that same batch past the throw out date. It came with a pack of crackers and two bread rolls which looked like they were left overs from someone else’s table, how unfortunate for me; one had a finger poke and were both cold and hard like when bread is microwaved too long. Was that the best part of the meal? I ordered the cajun steak bites, no rice and vegetables which I asked if I could order it that way. However, when it was brought out it was on rice with vegetables. What? Nevertheless, it was taken back to the kitchen and brought back out to the group of guests sitting at the end of the bar. The one it was sat in front of blurted out he did not order it. She told him it was a mistake and apparently he received a free offering. What? Is he a regular? And, I thought it odd both bartender and assistant kept repeating my name quite loudly in fact, as if to call me out for not being an obedient guest. I already hate to send food back and usually call it a night when that happens especially if the server feels some type of way and is faking professionalism at this point. I was actually hungry even ordered my usual to go. Yes, I used to frequent the place. A lot of new faces, obviously a minute since my last visit. So …. the cajun steak bites she recommended were a greasy mess and the dip was a waste of ingredients. They were better without it although mediocre in comparison to that item around the City. They slipped on my loaded potato. I had to remind her and I had hoped there would not be further retaliation. Oh well! Got what I deserved for asking for my whole order. How dare I expect well prepared food at value. The cheese drowned the outer skin on top of the potato and was nowhere else. How does an experience team over bake a potato? It was hard and ridiculously served anyway. Lucky me, right? Kept calling my name quite loudly about how sorry they were they forgot to bring it. Not the fact that it was barely edible. Is this to embarrass me or what? I could not get outta fast enough and still hungry cause nope did not eat it asked for a to go container and still had to wait on my to go food. Kept asking if I wanted water or another drink. Should have cancelled that to go order. Yes, a regular menu item which never disappointed me, ever! How do you serve fake shrimp. I could not even chew it. And, they cut down the number in the order cause I hate to think this is picking on me again. Yikes!!

I even gave a proper tip 🤦🏽‍♀️

Not adding a photo. This show was just for me. I hope your...

So I had a first date their with a new guy he actually recommended this place. Felt a bit better when I told my aunt and she also had good things to say. Nonetheless we arrived around 5pm yesterday opted for valet and once we got inside the line was at the door. Ok np we waited my guy offered to take me elsewhere but again I heard good things and understand that mostly all places are having staffing issues. So we ordered drinks while waiting in line. By 540ish we were seated. We ordered fried calamari while we decided on main courses Our waitress came back by and we placed orders for main courses. Our salads came first w Italian dressing (no calamari) no silverware. The dressing was half oil no flavor. Again this was a first date so caught up in conversation after a whole hour no calamari no main courses. The waitress was definitely overwhelmed with tears in her eyes explaining that the kitchen staff had walked out and only a few ppl in back. We understood she offered more drinks on the house. Finally got calamari after another 20 mins it was hot and fresh. By now it’s 7ish and still no main course out comes our waitress and the owner again trying to explain why we didn’t have food - I’m actually surprised at how long we kept our cool guess we didn’t want to scare each other off showing tempers lol but we were both angry. He ordered the fried shrimp with potato I ordered the seafood sampler with loaded potatoe-our food finally came around 730 and was COLD AND SOGGY our potatoes were cold mine wasn’t loaded and I had 1 small piece of perch the size of my thumb in my 30 sampler we sent the food back- we look around and notice that the restaurant is almost cleared out to find out that customers has begun to walk out due to restaurant wait on food and then restaurant was running out of food. When they brought our food out they substituted my plate adding 1more shrimp and extra set of frog legs didn’t tell me that they ran out of fish I had to ask where my fish was. Frog legs were raw but food was fresh Still disappointed they offered dessert of course we took as we were still hungry not having appetites after all of this Also to add I originally wanted shrimp scampi but the waitress said they were all out of pasta Ruined our first date and my guy kept apologizing over and over My guy made a great first impression but Sinbads not at all. They even ruined a lady’s 60th bday she said she’d been coming down there the last 5 years but...
