Brickhouse used to be a higher quality restaurant in Dickinson. Now that The Crossing has been closed this is your only other comparable option. However, the same situation is currently playing out at Brickhouse. The ingredient quality has diminished along with the service. Most of the time I have decent servers, but recently I had a really poor experience and it wasn't managed well. My gf and I didn't eat any of our sides, service was slow (we were her only table), baked potatoes cold, Brussel sprouts not cooked fully. They have changed some of their ingredients and seems like they have a new chef. The prices are still high but the quality is lacking more. Coming from larger cities in other states and having high quality, unique, and fine dining options - it was nice to have the Crossing and the Brickhouse in Dickinson. Now, the only place left (and I'm not sure how long it'll last) is Brickhouse. Now, there are no "higher" end restaurants to eat in Dickinson. At least nothing worth the price. I will save my money until I'm in California, Colorado, Minnesota, or some place that can actually provide a higher quality, "fine dining" experience worth the cost. It's unfortunate that dickinson continues to grow in population and yet the city poorly manages the infrastructural development. There is nothing here enticing people to stay long term, hardly any entertainment, not much good food - even less now. ‐------------‐----------------------------------------
Against my better judgement, I have come back two times. The first time wasn't a bad experience. Overall everything was good. The second visit, not so much. We will not be coming back.
The bread they used to serve with balsamic and olive oil before the change in ownership was great. The first time it was changed, the bread was disgusting. Now, it's better, but clearly a roll they heat up. I didn't eat any.
They started adding a sauce to all their steaks. I don't know who buys a $50 steak and wants sauce on it. I've never had a restaurant, especially a "higher end" one, put sauce on a steak. It is on the side or at request. The sauce is sweet. I don't want sweet sauce on steak. The sauce is terrible.
The steaks are not the same quality as they were in 2018/2019. Those steaks were very tender, cut like butter, and rich in flavor. The filet would melt in your mouth. This is no longer the case.
All in all, the prices are still high, the quality is half of what it used to be, and the side portions are smaller. This will be our last visit. I can cook a better quality meal for 1/3 of the price. Very disappointing.
P.S. - I don't know why people in North Dakota feel the need to push so hard when cutting their food. You can constantly hear people's knives on their plates, squealing, like nails on a chalkboard. I guess this is a place void of manners and proper etiquette. However, I am not surprised...
Read moreBe prepared, this is a pretty comprehensive review. I read the online reviews and expected better. Arrived for our 6:30 reservation and were seated right away. Our server did not explain any of the specials but was ready to take our order. I told her my wife and I had lots of time and wanted to enjoy a leisurely dining. We ordered cocktails but I told her we would have wine with our food and we didn’t want it coming too fast or all at once. When she brought our cocktails she asked again if we were ready to order. We both ordered steaks and got our salads right away. Our steaks were brought to the table when we were only 1/2 way into our cocktails and just finishing our salads. I pointed out to her that this was exactly what we were trying to avoid. It wasn’t because they were busy or overbooked and trying to turn the tables. There were plenty of open tables. The food was very good but a little overdone. My rare was medium rare and her medium rare was medium. We didn’t have wine because of the timing. The server was pleasant enough but really needs some instruction. This is a management issue. When spending a hundred bucks on dinner (with cocktails and desert but without the wine) I really expect a better level of service and if an establishment bills itself as upscale they should provide it. Not a bad meal or a bad experience but below expectations for the price point. Nice atmosphere but in and...
Read moreWe come here as a family two or three times a year to celebrate my grandparents birthdays and anniversary. Each time, I say to myself “maybe this time the food will be good!” and each time I am disappointed. The atmosphere is actually pretty good, which makes the food even more disappointi. I’ve had steaks, pastas, chicken, and seafood, and every single one has been comparable to Applebee’s quality at above premium prices. The food isn’t bad, per se, but if I’m paying $40 for a steak I’m expecting something on par with a prime rib; instead, I am greeted with a slab of meat that is similar to what your uncle would cook over his Weber on a Thursday night. The presentation if the food leaves something to be desired as well, with the items scattered (or pasted, depending on the side) alongside the entree. If you came to town for a good steak, don’t come here; go the extra fifteen minutes and stop in at Burly’s over in Belfield, or continue on and hit the Little Mo in Medora. The price per bite leaves much to be desired, especially when advertised as being cooked by an award winning chef. The dessert is...
