It has been a long time since I've been excited about somewhere to eat locally. As much as I love living in this neighborhood there really aren't a lot of options when it comes to going out somewhere to eat and not driving too far. Tonight for my birthday I had the absolute pleasure of eating at the Hunter Valley Restaurant. I had seen the advertisements for it on Facebook and had been wanting to try but tonight was definitely the night and it was one of the best birthday meals I've ever had. We began with a warm cup of tea black for me and green for Eric and I absolutely adore getting hot beverages and clear glasses and the large the glass size was wonderful.
The menu has so many options, even if you have picky eaters you are bound to find something for everyone. For an appetizer we ordered mushroom Julianne and the generous size could have fed 4 people picking at it. My first bite I audibly cursed out loud because the flavor was absolutely incredible!! Creamy full bodied goodness!! I knew right away our meals were going to be just as good.. but I was wrong.. they were EVEN BETTER! I knew I wanted shrimp but wanted Alfredo instead of scampi and the chef graciously made the substitution. Erik ordered the French Crockpot Venison stew. Again the size of the portions for both of our meals were very impressive and the flavor of each was so perfectly complete! I almost did a reenactment of the scene from when Harry met Sally... yes that scene. YUM! I never had to reach for the salt, which for me never happens, because it needed nothing. Erik said the Venison stew had a slight kick but had the perfect balance of spice and flavor and needed nothing else. There was a ton of meat and it wasn't a stew where it was overloaded with veggies and you're searching for the meat, quite the opposite. If you're not eating here I'm sure what your doing with your life. We don't go out to eat often but we'll be starting from now on because I'll do anything to keep this little Gem of a restaurant open!
Oh and YES... they DELIVER!!! CAN YOU...
Read moreUnfortunately this was one of the worst meals we've had in the Poconos. Our experience was a frustrating mix of hit-or-miss food and comically bad service.
We walked in at 7:45 PM, over an hour before their 9:00 PM closing time. The empty parking lot and dining room made us hesitant, so we confirmed if it was still alright to order. They said it was fine, and we placed our order by 8:00 PM. The menu seemed interesting and we ordered a few extra dishes since it seemed like they were struggling on a slow night. Things started going downhill when the appetizers, soups and entrees all came out at 8:45. As the last dish is being put down, the waitress (bluntly) reminds us that they close at 9:00 and would need to start wrapping up the food shortly (again...as she's placing our food down...). She told us she was new (and clearly hadn't been trained by anyone) but that doesn't really excuse rushing your only customers. The food itself was a bit overpriced and nothing to write home about. The pork chops were inedible (so dry that you couldn't cut them) and we brought it up to the waitress she didn't really care or make an effort to fix it. The seafood soup smelled like ocean (but not in a good "fresh" way). The Syrniki was surprisingly good and very well made. The Wild Boar Schnitzel and Moose Stroganov were good but both could have been regular beef (and not really worth the added $). We mainly came in for the "interesting dishes" so I'll blame myself for setting my expectations too high. The Pastrami Benedict and Pelmeni dumplings were also decent. They were out of some sides and got our orders wrong for others (ultimately charging us for salads we didn't get). Overall, some of the food was okay while some was inedible, the service was horrendous, and the prices were reflective of them not knowing the market they're in (evidenced by an empty restaurant on a Saturday night). I had such high hopes for this place but ended up having to apologize to my parents for...
Read moreStopped by during roadtrip along Route 84, wanting to make a change from our usual stop in Milford, about 10 min further along 84. We didn’t want to deal with the usual crowds, tight parking and likely wait time for Saturday lunch at our usual places. Just WOW! I’m so glad we took a chance here, given that the reviews were so good, and the added plus- was ez on and off the highway. The menu was great - LOTS of selection and BREAKFAST ALL DAY!!! We had Greek omelette (well done as requested) that came with a side salad tossed in vinaigrette (so fresh!) and crepe with fresh fruit, and Unsweetened IT, clearly fresh brewed. It was all perfect, and I’m not usually one to throw good reviews around unless it’s really fantastic. This was. We ate outside, which allowed our pooch to hang table side. Service was great. Check was $30 plus tip, which was a great value and much less than a possibly lesser meal would be in Milford I think. Note: to look at it you might raise an eyebrow, sorta hole in the wall looking BUT DONT LET THAT FOOL YOU! Never been but def will go back, and it’s now our “go to” on route 84. Just go, you will be wonderfully surprised & leave happy and full -without...
