UPDATE: I am updating this review. The price of a large steak bomb sub is $16+tax. I returned the small steak bomb that I purchased for a refund. The manager was unhappy. He opened up the sandwich, which revealed almost nothing. Two or three ounces of meat, a few onions and peppers. If there were mushrooms, they were very few. Hardly a "steak bomb." The manager gave no defense of the skimpy contents. He only complained about my bad review, claiming it was "inaccurate." My review is an opinion, and an opinion cannot be inaccurate. He complained because I previously left two positive reviews, which I have taken down due to my further experiences. The manager needs to learn the meaning of customer service. When a customer complains, you dont argue with or berate the customer, or tell them to get their food elsewhere, as he did. It's unprofessional. Remember, the customer is always right. REVIEW: I have lived in the Dixfield area most of life and have 30+ years of experience in the restaurant industry. I have worked at the best pizza shops around - DaVincis's, Pat's Pizza, and Yianni's to name a few. I believe this qualifies me to know what locals want and what constitutes great food. I have tried all of the local restaurants and pizza shops within a 50-mile radius. I admit, my standards are high. I look for great food at a fair price. Mimi's Pizza Shop in Dixfield offers neither. Mimi's is a new shop in Dixfield. We locals had high expectations for this new enterprise. We were excited to have a new option in our little town. But Mimi's is just another so-so pizza shop serving average food at inflated prices. For example, a 14-inch pizza with only 3 toppings costs $18.75. A simple one topping 14-inch pizza is $14.75. These are crazy prices for just average pizza. A simple hamburger costs $8.50. No fries or anything. A grilled cheese sandwich is $5. A simple garden salad is $9. These prices come from their takeout menu. It's all just way overpriced for just average food. I have made three visits to Mimi's, and every time, the food was barely average. The pizza was overcooked, and the dough was tough. Definitely frozen dough, not "fresh dough." The sauce was nothing special, no doubt from a can, and the cheese was nothing special. The toppings were acceptable - barely. My second purchase was an "Italian sandwich." These people clearly do not know what constitutes a real Maine Italian sandwich. The first Maine Italian was introduced by Giovanni Amato in 1902 in Portland, Maine. It featured an Italian roll, stuffed with meat and cheese. The secret to his success was the roll. Soft, and slightly chewy, it was nothing like the rolls you get today at most pizza and sub shops in Maine. Without the right roll, an Italian sandwich is not a real Maine Italian - it's a sub. Most shops around here, including Mimi's, use a sub roll that is crusty and tough. If you save half of your sandwich for the following day, the roll will be as hard as a rock. To this day, the only place in the area to get a real Italian sandwich is at Amato's, which has only a few shops surviving in Maine. My last (and final) purchase at Mimi's was a small "steak bomb" sub. I paid $11+tax. It literally weighed maybe 5 ounces, if that. They use cheap American cheese on their steak subs. A real steak sub has provolone cheese, not cheap American. A large would have cost me $16+, and no doubt it would have been equally skimpy. In short, if you are in the area looking for a great pizza and sub shop, do not expect to be thrilled with Mimi's. For now, they are busy, but it's only because they are a new addition to our local offerings, and there are only two other options in Dixfield. We Mainers are savvy customers. We know great food, and we know a fair price. You won't get either at Mimi's. And before long, once the newness wears off, the high prices for just so-so food will catch up with them. Sorry, Mimi's, but your prices are too high for the food you serve. If you want to know how to run an exceptional pizza shop, I'm available for...
Read moreWe had such a great experience from beginning to end at Mimi’s in Dixfield. We were greeted as soon as we came in the door. Our waitress was very attentive and eager to make sure we had an “excellent” experience (her words). My husband had the fried haddock and fries and said it was quite possibly the best fish fry he had ever eaten! Super fresh fish, flaky and fried to perfection. I had the ham hoagie and loved that it was just the classic simple toasted comfort food I was wanting. After dinner we were eager to try the dessert which our waitress proudly served; a Whoopie pie and peanut butter chocolate cheesecake! They were both excellent! Their hospitality made it evident that they appreciated our patronage and they wanted to see us again, something that is sadly missing in most establishments these days. This was our first visit but absolutely will not...
Read moreI find it absolutely appalling that there isn't many places to eat in this river valley of ours, so trying this new place was hopeful but when you get home after spending close to 40 dollars and think you have half your food missing and it actually isnt you have to second guess what kind of establishment this place is. I decide to call and see why I have no fries with my order of chicken finger baskets which is what I ordered along with a pizza and she preceded to tell me that they don't come with fries I have to order that extra. Now isn't that something you tell someone when they first call and order there food? Not when they get home after paying to find no fries with there BASKETS. What does a basket typically come with? Not just four tenders for 10 dollars. I unfortunately ordered two of them as well. Never again. Shaking my head at...
