Shamrock Pub — Restaurant in Dixon Township

Friend and I were driving from Grinnell, Iowa to Oak Park, Illinois and wanted to stop someplace about halfway for a quick dinner. I saw this place and that it was well rated. We were quite happy to find it.

Informal, relatively small place filled with very welcoming locals. The kind of place where you’d tell a friend that you’ll be hanging out one evening so they should stop by for a drink.

Typical bar / pub food. Few items appeared to be made from scratch, as evidenced by the box of Hamburger Helper near the bathrooms. But people who come here aren’t coming for fine dining. They’re coming for well-priced, comfort food items and, more importantly, a fun, laid back, social atmosphere.

The service was great. The food was decent. Two of my lunch companions had cheeseburgers and they both said they were very good. I had the crispy chicken sandwich. Though it was good enough, I wouldn’t have ordered it if I had known it was a composite “chicken” patty. The buns were not good quality. All three sandwiches fell apart before we could finish. Cold beer was excellent, the fries were good enough for me to have them again. The checkout process was awkward. It was at the table, with one of those card readers where you have to tell the server how much you want your bill to be with the tip included. I don’t think that is necessary and clearly the server was not thrilled...

OMG!!!! First off the remodel looks great. We had dinner here tonight and I ordered the Smoked Prime Rib. Let me tell you something I haven’t had Prime Rib that was this amazing in probably ever. Shame on the chef for “accidentally” cutting mine a little to big lol. I eat here a couple times a month but usually is for lunch. Everything I have ever ordered from here is awesome. I wish I could give more stars than 5 because they deserve it.
