Goodberry's Frozen Custard — Restaurant in Durham

Goodberry’s is my all time favorite ice cream/custard place in all of the US. They have some of the most flavorful, fresh ice cream available. They also have a “flavor of the day” which is fun and gives you an excuse to go get ice cream and try something new & different.

That said, this specific location leaves a lot to be desired. The staff is typically quite unfriendly and sometimes straight up rude. Additionally, you know those flavors of the day mentioned above? Yeah, well, I’m convinced this location never actually makes those flavors. More times than I care to count, I’ve gone specifically for the flavor listed on the website (very early in the day) only to be told they’re out. It happens more times than to simply consider it a coincidence. Why bother offering a flavor of the day if you’re never going to actually have it available? Finally, be sure to keep an eye on the sanitation rating. It floats anywhere from the upper 80s (GROSS!) to mid 90s depending upon the time of year.

Overall, Goodberry’s is the GOAT but like most Durham establishments, this one could use some corporate attention.

EDIT: Unfortunately, dropping this location down to 2 stars. Went tonight and was told they were out of vanilla custard??! That’s the main flavor that is included in literally every single one of their sundaes, concretes, etc. that is what they’re know for! That’s like going to McDonalds and them being out of hamburgers. Window advertisement said chocolate custard with multiple candy nrands mixed in. Yet the sign did not say it was a baby mini cup sample size. Furthermore it did not state bit would cost$7.90 for 1 measley scoop of ice cream. SMH! So I asked for the Raspberry flavor of the day with Bind Cherry Mix In. The guy then proceeded to tell me that because their freezer was broken they were unable to do mix ins for concrete custard. First of all, I was told they did not have Concrete custard already premade as their freezer aka coolers as he put it was broken. So basically I ended up ordering a pint of plain raspberry and bring I had already paid $7.90 before I saw that infant size scoop of custard in a cup I changed my order and received 75 cents back. From now on I will stick with ordering Good berry's in Wake Forest location or find me an ice cream or custard shop at the beach where I now reside. Only come back up this way to help take care of family members or see friends. Well I know had I went to Wake Forest I could have ordered what flavor I wanted with mix in and been satisfied with a pint and the cost. Being this establishment has not branched out to Carolina Beach area, Iay as well buy me a Cuisinart and make my own custard style ice cream and avoid the hassle in near future! Oh my goodness, Goodberry’s! I just had to reach out and tell you how much I absolutely adore your store in Durham! Seriously, you have the most incredible employees ever. Val and Michael are just the best. Val is literally always beaming with a smile and her customer service is out of this world. But the best part? She makes the most divine vanilla concrete I have ever tasted! And get this, she even knows my order without me having to say a word. It’s like she reads my mind! And then there’s Michael. He always has me in stitches with his hilarious jokes. He teases me about having "blinders" on whenever Val is around, but trust me, I notice how amazing the entire team is. This store is hands down the greatest in my book. I’ve worked in customer service for over a decade and have managed teams myself, so I know a good employee when I see one. Val and Michael deserve some serious recognition for their outstanding service, as does your store for setting such high customer service standards.
