The Original Rainbow Cone ā Dyer, Indiana
This was my first visit to The Original Rainbow Cone in Dyer, and my first impression was that the location was clean and fresh. However, I almost didnāt stop because the āOpenā sign was turned off.
The menu was beautiful and colorful, making me want everything I saw! I initially ordered the mini donuts, but unfortunately, the server informed me that the donut machine was out of service. So, I opted for the Chocolate Obsession on a waffle cone (with an upcharge of $1.59). It looked exactly like the photoāstacked with chocolate variations and loaded with toppings.
Excited, I parked in their lot to take a quick picture and a short video. But as soon as I went in for my first lickāBOOM! The entire scoop toppled over and landed on an unclean surface. Just like that, my treat was gone in seconds. It was a sad evening. I managed to salvage the waffle cone, but the experience left me disappointed.
A few things I noticed: ⢠Thereās plenty of outdoor seating, which is great for summer. ⢠This taller ice cream is better for standing and eating rather than sitting - especially if you are short- like me. ⢠They should recommend cups for customers eating in their cars. ⢠Instead of placing the ice cream loosely on top of the cone, they should stuff the cone to help secure the scoop.
I might return to try the mini donuts when available, but next time, Iāll definitely ask for my ice...
Ā Ā Ā Read more02/26/25 2:00pm hour The parking is a little weird and tight. The service was super fast friendly and efficient. The place is somewhat new so the cleanliness expectations is high which the location made the grade and passed. The doughnuts (CLASSIC GLAZED) were good and I waited a minute before trying mine and they were STILL pretty tasty. The box which the doughnuts were put in had an old grease smell. Somehow and thank goodness it didnāt affect the taste of the doughnuts. I tried the dream-cycle ice cream which was pretty good. The vanilla had a good flavor but the orange sherbet consisted of those orange peels mixed in the ice cream not a fan. Rainbow Ice Cream has been a Chicago staple for years which was always a popular featured ITEM at not only the TASTES OF CHICAGO BUT CHICAGO FESTS ( NAVY PIER) IN THE 1970ās. My only problem would be where the location chosen and used to house this Popular Ice shop. It is situated right next to a popular ice cream coffee and doughnut shop. A place that is so popular that it sent a Starbucks packing in the 1990ās around the Board of Trade right in Chicago on Van...
