Magnums Bar and Grill — Restaurant in East Alton

We took my mom here for what we thought would be an enjoyable birthday dinner for my mom, well we were wrong and I will never come back to this place for anything not even for a drink of water on a 100 degree day. This was my first (and last) time ever eating here. We will start with my arrival, first off it's a bar so most customers probably come at night and their parking lot was so dark I couldn't see my bright orange car from 3 cars away. Then I get inside and it's not bad for a hole in the wall place that has been there for years. So I get seated as the rest of my family had already arrived and ordered drinks. I sat there for about 10min waiting to give my drink order, not a big deal I was the late one, and we ordered a couple appitizers. I got a drink finally and our appitizers. It took almost another half hour to get our order taken (the current waitress was ending her shift and more worried about the trip she was about to take, while the new waitress got ready to start her shift). We finally got order taken but before we ordered we were informed that they were out of some things on the menu, which 2 of the items my mom and grandma did want. So instead our order was 2 giant cheeseburgers and 3 steaks well done. It took probably close to another half hour for our food to come out, we went and smoked and threw a couple dollars in the slot machines that were there. Finally our food was there, been there an hour at this point. The cheese burgers looked really good, but the steaks on the other hand we could tell at first sight without even cutting into them that they were not well done (you could see blood sitting on top the steaks). The waitress insisted we cut into our steaks to see if they were cooked enough, well they were not they all 3 were sitting in puddles of blood and were completely pink on the inside, my mom's looked fresh off the cow it was so bloody. So we sent them back, the waitress apologized and said this had been happening all day and she didn't know what was going on. About 7min later we got our steaks back for the 2nd time, you can tell they were put back on the gill on the outside of the steaks but we cut into them again and they are still pink, so we sent them back again, I had even made a comment about how they just needed to cook mine on the one side a little longer and it would be ok, again the waitress apologized, and I must add she was so sweet and patient and apologetic the whole time. So we wait again and we finally get our steaks for the 3rd time, been there almost an hour and a half at this point, this time the owner followed the waitress out with our steaks. He already had an attitude and made a comment about how the steaks were super well done. You could clearly see the steaks were now burnt on the outside and wouldn't you know it still pink on the inside. This is when the owner started getting extremely rude and raising his voice at us saying that the steaks were well done and made a comment about us having been there 3 hours already, ok arrived at 6:30pm and his outburst was at 8pm not 3 hours, anyways not important, so I picked up my steak with my hands and said this is not well done when a steam of blood poured out of my burnt steak that hurt my finger tips to squeeze because it was so charred. The OWNER let me repeat that this is the OWNER of this establishment started throwing a bigger fit told the waitress to not charge us for the steaks that we all were going to pay for, eventhough we should not have and did not, and told us all that we needed to leave and not ever come back, no problem we will not be back, but I told him he did not need to be an a**hole. The oh so sweet waitress came back and stared getting us all crashed out while the again OWNER went to another table and proceeded to talk about us. When he was done taking about us to the other table he went and sat at the end of the bar and stared at all of us until we left. This place was great for years. The sign has the same name but that's about it. The new owners have seriously dropped the ball. They only had 3 cuts of steak to choose from out of the 10 on the menu. I ordered potato puffs every time I came before. This was the first time in the 6-7 years of going there that I couldn't because they were one of several things that they were out of. We weren't even told they didn't have the cheese sticks until we asked where they were when our steaks came out. They must have been the last ribeyes because(while my brother and dad's steaks looked like full cuts) mine was in 3 sections hanging together by a lot of gristle. They are now about a half inch thick instead of a full inch to 1 1/2 inches. He burnt mine a little. I'd imagine it would be hard to get it evenly cooked when the other 2 were intact as a solid peice of meat. We heard the guy that cooked the food talking to the waitress about doing whatever they needed to do to get through the next week because they were seriously short handed. Given the lack of business, that was alarming to hear. It looked like you only needed 2 people there at any given time.

I'd be shocked if their prospective employees aren't ghosting them within a couple days of seeing how badly it's being ran. It has to be obvious there is little chance of completing an underpaid wage with the meager tips they are in store for here. I can't see this lasting long. The parking lot is always empty now. You know, my husband and I have been going there for many many years, I never complained we really enjoyed eating there Then I started taking my family there, cause the food in the service was really good Now I won’t go back there. I took my daughter there for her birthday and Three of us ordered sirloin steaks, and all three of us had to send our steaks back three times the third time the manager comes to our table yelling at us telling us they were cooked and they weren’t they were still bleeding and then he had the nerve to tell us to never come back, and then told us we were there for three hours and we’d only been there an hour and a half then turned around right in front of us and talk to his customers about us.
