We were excited to see a new Indian restaurant open up in the area, so we gave it a try over their opening weekend. Here's what we tried: Chicken Tikka Masala - VERY good, creamy with nice chunks of white meat chicken. Could be a little spicier, but that can be altered. Butter Chicken - this was a little disappointing. They use leg meat which isn't ideal as it has gristle and tendons, making the meat less appealing. Thigh meat would have been a better choice. Taste was good though. Naan - the naan is good, basic naan but at $4 for one naan it's a bit expensive. Chicken Manchow Soup - I wasn't a fan of this at all and the portion is tiny.
This leads me to the reason for 4 stars. The portions are a bit small for the prices. For example - the Chicken Tikka Masala and Butter Chicken are served in PINT size containers at $17 and $16 each respectively. The Chicken Manchow Soup was $7 for HALF of a pint - very pricey for that much soup.
Overall - the food is very good, but the Butter Chicken can use better cuts of chicken. The menu is HUGE - they offer just about every Indian dish from every region which is great. The owner and staff are also very nice, and the place is beautiful (it was the former Casablanca restaurant). If they can improve the portions/pricing and maybe offer a lunch buffet, they can certainly be a 5-star restaurant, and I...
Read moreWe heard that Casablanca was replaced by a Desi restaurant so wanted to try. They do not have a light up sign at the top yet so with all other neon signs in the lot, you may think that the place is not open when driving by. They are using the same set up and ambiance from Casablanca, which is very classy. The good - All the veg items, including appetizers, curries, and biryani were very good and flavorful. The bad - Nonveg appetizer was ordinary and did not taste very fresh The ugly - Chicken Dum Biryani was below average. It literally looked like left over tandoori chicken from the morning was tossed up with biryani rice. It was very bland and the meat was stale and nobody liked it. There was truly no 'dum' in this dum biryani. This was surprising because the Paneer Biryani was quite tasty. These guys have a long way to go to match other Desi options nearby at least for the...
Read moreI am not sure about other menu items. I ordered biryanis. Taste was subpar. They cannot claim what they gave me as a biryani. It tasted like a gravy mixed rice that had no aroma / flavor in it. I had to trash the food.
Update: After having an upset stomach, I walked into the restaurant later in the evening to return the food and provide my honest feedback. Chef Vimal politely heard my feedback and agreed to address the flaws in the future. He refunded my money fully and invited me with family for dine-in another day. I strongly hope they will be considering the feedback I shared. I won’t mind giving it one more try...
