To make things worse the waitress helped herself to $15 off our account after the meal. Check out the images to see the receipt vs the charge...
Had to dispute with our credit card to resolve!
Original Review: Oh my goodness. Go somewhere else!
Circe provides terrible service, rude staff, high prices and low table availability to handily win my least very restaurant on the east coast award.
I don't often give 2 star or less reviews but I have never left a restaurant so annoyed before.
I'll simplify the story of the night a bit but basically my wife and I had some RI food fight coupons, which after some curt explanation from the man who we later learned is probably the owner, were disallowed from being used.
At this point I can say ok, fair play, communication must have been crossed somewhere, so after some discussion amongst ourselves my wife and I decided on our entrees.
No one bothered to come back to light the candle on the table or check on us until the head honcho guy came back. When we ordered he verbally expressed his surprise that my wife was ordering scallops. I ordered the duck.
While we did get our first set of drinks the table was then forgotten about until around 65 minutes after our order was placed (I'd like to thank my mom for the read text receipt lol). The food, despite being slow came out at room temperature, neither dish even warm.
As a small aside it's worth noting the portion sizes are small for the price, generally on par with what would be expected at high end establishments, but the quality of the food is somewhere firmly between simply ok and eh, given that it was not even hot.
Sometime after the food arrived the waitress did come back to see if I wanted another beer but after we requested soda we wouldn't see her until we were nearly done our meal, despite the other table being visited multiple times.
At this point I was completely out of patience and requested, with annoyance, the check. Once that came I couldn't get the card out fast enough so we went back to waiting.
We asked the bus staff to ring out the check but were dismissed. By the time the waitress did come to get our check it was because her and the man from the start of this terrible story had come to quickly clear the table. Guess more important dinner guests finally showed up...
To top the night off the waitress gave our card to the wrong table, charged the wrong bill to our card and ignored me when I tried to flag her down to alert her that she had given me someone else's card.
I normally like to leave these reviews on a good note or point out something redeeming but the best I have is that the silverware was clean...
If you're already on your way here it may be a good idea to divert, there's fast food nearby and I've never been disrespected so keenly at a burger joint as I...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Circe in East Greenwich, RI, and I am beyond impressed. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was welcoming and beautiful – a perfect setting for a Friday night out. While our table wasn't quite ready we were comfortably seated at the bar where we were greeted by the most delightful bartender. She went above and beyond, exuding such a friendly, positive energy. It’s always a treat when the staff makes you feel right at home, and she certainly did that. Not to mention, her lychee martinis were absolutely delicious – perfectly crafted and packed with flavor!
Once we were seated, our waiter continued the high level of service, ensuring everything was perfect throughout the meal. Both the bartender and waiter truly elevated our experience, and for that alone, I would recommend Circe 10 out of 10.
As for the food, I can honestly say it was nothing short of incredible. Three of us opted for the braised beef short rib, and it was the star of the evening. The beef was fall-apart tender, infused with deep, rich flavors from the braising process, and the portion size was generous. Paired with a mushroom risotto, which was creamy and savory with just the right amount of earthiness, and perfectly roasted asparagus, it made for an unforgettable dish. Every bite was a perfect harmony of flavors and textures.
One of our guests chose the filet mignon, which was equally impressive. It was tender, juicy, and perfectly cooked to order, with a depth of flavor that lingered long after the meal. The mushroom ravioli ordered by another guest was equally as fantastic – each delicate ravioli was filled with a savory mushroom mixture that paired beautifully with a rich, creamy sauce.
To sum it all up, the food was exceptional, the drinks were top-notch, and the service was impeccable. I can’t wait to return and experience more of what Circe has to offer....
Read moreThis is a great restaurant. The manner in which the meals are put together makes this a very special experience. I love the deviled eggs, so simple yet brilliantly tasty. I love the meatloaf, the scallops, the braised beef, the salmon. All the side orders of vegetables, spinach, asparagus, Brussel sprouts, are done up very nice. Every meal, the ingredients blend in so well with each other in an unique, fantastic culinary experience. For this reason, I would not recommend changing the ingredients in the meal as the mixture blended together is what makes this restaurant so special. For example, my son ordered the salmon. But wanted spaghetti aliole instead of the way the meal was set up. He was very happy with the results. But I think he missed experiencing what makes this restaurant unique. Also , this is what I call an inexpensive expensive restaurant as it's most likely the less expensive expensive restaurant in Rhode Island. It's got all the earmarks of a high class restaurant that allows for loopholes so the diner can eat at a reasonable price on a limited budget and still get the full dining experience. I don't believe there is another restaurant in Rhode Island that compares to this restaurant in this regard. My only quirk about this restaurant is they have a preponderance of large private parties mixed with the regular diners. When this happens, things tend to get discombobulated at times. I don't believe they have quite figured out yet how to mesh the two together. So when making reservations, ask if there are any big private parties scheduled at the same time as your reservation so you can avoid this...
