DISAPPOINTING!!! We were married here more than a few years ago and it was truly an amazing wedding. Over the years we have returned a handful of times and things were very good. We decided to return and celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary back at the place it all started. Now that our girls are grown we thought it would be a good idea to include them as well. Unfortunately, things certainly did not live up to the way we remembered. From the first moment it was clear things have changed. The grounds look okay, but certainly not up to previous standards. The hostess was pleasant, but not as friendly as in the past and even with a reservation, we were seated right in the middle of the dinning room floor...noisy, yes it was! Our waitress, was fine at best... she is what I would call a minimalist...doing the bare minimal and nothing more...acceptable at Applebee's but certainly not what you would expect from a restaurant in this class. The food was good, but not great. Finally, the wine that was served was AWFUL...see the picture of the "sediment" that was in my first glass of wine. When I brought it to my server's attention the response was "that's just sediment and that happens with red wine". REALLY, did she think this is my first glass of wine, I have drank literally thousands of glasses of wine and NEVER had that much SEDIMENT in a glass of wine, and I CERTAINLY would have never served that to someone at $15 a glass!!! Nonetheless, the second glass that I selected and was recommended tasted like I was drinking from an AVON bottle...who is selecting their wines??? Anyway I guess you just can't go back to the "Village Green"! Sorry Jeff we really had fond...
Read moreMy wife and I are lucky enough to live local to this restaurant. Whenever she asks me where I want to go for "date night", my answer is always the same. Kimberton Inn. It is by no means a "cheap" restaurant, but the food is QUALITY and the service is unmatched in the area, by a long shot.
We never feel "rushed" there. Last night we had a nice relaxing dinner for 2 on the patio (73* and no bugs) and we just enjoyed each other's company for 2 hours. No pressure to leave, not ignored by staff being outside... just a nice relaxing time.
Their bar selection is top shelf. I am a Scotch drinker and can rarely find a HIGH quality Scotch at a restaurant in this area. The first time I asked for a "peaty / smokey Scotch like Lagavulin or Laphroaig 18 or Laphroaig 10", they said, to my delight, "we have all 3... which would you like". Usually, you're LUCKY if a bar has Laphroaig 10 (the least of the 3).
They also have a Sunday Brunch (which we used to go to twice a month before we had a baby) which is a GREAT value for money. You get a 5 course meal for $25. A bit pricey for Breakfast, but if you think about the amount of food you get, it's actually a good deal.
Jeff, the owner is a great guy who does not overlook the details and isn't afraid to pick up some empty plates to keep the place moving. He's not a busboy, but he's a great owner who makes sure the experience and service are top notch. When he's not there, Jay, the maitre d, does a wonderful job taking care of us.
I can not recommend the Kimberton Inn...
Read moreThe location and building are beautiful. The food... Not so much. Seasoning was pretty lacking, I had to salt everything. The potato/leek soup was the best dish I had, but it had to be seasoned. The menu was out of date by about 20 years. It was a simple menu with very very simple dishes, but the cost mostly reflects the 'eervice'... Think stuffy and you feel like whispering the whole time. It's like dining in an elderly home, which coincidentally seems to be the main source of clientele.
The server we had was very nice and personable. The employee just works at a place and I have nothing to complain about from a personel staindooint.
I had the house version of an old-fashioned and it was pretty good.
I had the check the salmon rillette dish to make sure it wasn't canned salmon. Tasted like mayo, which is unfortunate. The duck I had was okay but it really needed a sauce. The duck itself was almost completely unseasoned. The confit leg was okay but it honestly tasted like it was on the verge of going rancid... That sour fatty taste was ckming through. The risotto was not creamy or starchy, it was more like a very very loose rice pilaf. I liked the cherries in there, it would have been good with an actual risotto and a...
