I’ll start with the positive which is the Red Velvet cake is the best I’ve ever had (besides my Nanna’s but I’m biased) lol! With that being said, my family and I patronize this business regularly. Every holiday we order several cakes and we also buy slices individually or collectively multiple times throughout the year. We have done this for the last 5 years!
My reason for the the 3 stars instead of 5 is due to my last 2 visits and my experience with the new cashier. She really needs customer service training and should not be on the front lines. I live in Newnan so I always call before I visit. On Christmas Eve before I drove to the store I called to see if they had any slices of Red Velvet and the young lady stated they would have some @ 4:15p but someone had already purchased those and that they would have more coming up at 5:15p & 6:15p. She also mentioned I had to be present to get one. It was already about 4:15p so I drove down and arrived at 5:17p hoping to get a slice of the 5:15p batch. Well when I pulled up there was a cash only sign which the young lady failed to mention and I never carry cash so I said ok I’ll just go to the atm next door and incur the fee no biggie. After getting the money from the atm I go inside and inquire about the Red Velvet to see if the 5:15p set was up yet and the rude cashier tells me “we only have vanilla and it’ll be about 30 mins because ain’t nobody working on it yet” I explained the whole 5:15p, 6:15p batch thing when I called and she repeated what she said the first time in a very nonchalant matter of fact way so I decided to leave. This past Saturday I decided to try again. I called and was told they had some so I drove down and made it around 4ish. I stood in line for about 20 mins and when I made it into the store the young man ask what I would like and then told me it would be up in about 5-8 mins. I went to the cashier and asked if I could go ahead and pay for it and her response was “ you can wait outside and I let you know when they are ready and you can pay for it then”. She definitely could’ve said it better but in peace I just stepped outside. A guy a few people behind me asked what I was waiting on when I went back outside and I told him the Red velvet so he stepped out of line and stood by me as well. Then after about 10 mins he went in and inquired about the cake but he didn’t come back out to wait he stayed in the store. So when I saw the cake come out I went in to the register since I was the first person waiting on the cake. The cashier says “he was first” and tells him to come on and checks him out with his red velvet first. Now I’m an adult so I didn’t make a big deal about it but I definitely took note. The young lady working the cash register really needs to be removed because she lacks customer service skills. This is the first time in 5 years that I have had an experience like this with a cashier or the company. I’ve never had a bad experience prior to this. I really hope the leadership addresses it and her attitude is better by my next visit or I’ll be forced to go without because customer service is essential to every business’ success and as a representative of the business she should be a reflection of the core values and at this time in my opinion as a customer of 5...
Read moreI was in Marietta when Sammy's came to my Nissan Dealership, where I bought a slice of cake. It was very good, and in October of 2017 ... I bought a whole cake for my Daughter's Birthday which turn out to be very good. In February of 2018, I ordered a cake for my Birthday. This cake was a disappointment. It was old, dry, and lilting (Sagging). I Called them to complain. Sammy himself called me back. I was impressed that he took the time to call me back. He offered to replace the cake. I did not want to penalize a Black Business, so I went in and paid like [70%] of the cost for another cake. Lately I had been working late at the Dealership, so I asked my Son to pick up a couple of slices. He got a Strawberry and Lemon slice. The Lemon was cut crooked and compensated for, by the frosting, but was still tasty. How ever, the Strawberry ... had a sour taste, like it had been on his counter top too long. He doesn't refrigerate those slices, even though, they are sitting on top of a refrigerator/cooler. I talked to Sammy the next day (Left early to make sure that I can talked to him), and he told me "Nobody else has complained". Like, because "Nobody else has complained" ... that it couldn't possibly be something wrong with his product that he doesn't keep refrigerated. Still trying to do business with a Black Business ... I tried to order a Lemon cake. He told me that it would take [4] days while he was flipping through his notebook. Each page would only have [2 -3] appointments. I mean ... if you can only fill [2 -3] appointments per day, and this is all you do ... RED FLAG (finally hits me). Just like most Black Businesses that serves food ... they refuse to follow basic health rules. You know like, if your food stays out for more than [4] hours, it is considered garbage (You should refrigerate). And I have found that Black Businesses refuse to through out the food that is classified as garbage. Cheesecake, when it get old, will taste sour. At first I was proud of the fact that a black man would put out a good product, But, when [2] out of the [3] visits, I get old or sour cakes. I'd say that there is something very wrong going on. One more thing. When I left early from work to talk to Sammy, it was about [20] minutes before he was about to close ... I could see about [6] cakes that were sitting on that steel table behind him. I guess that they were supposed to be cooling off ... "OVER NIGHT"!! I'm sorry, this isn't good health practices. I know that the [125] reviews prior to mine, may have been regular customers. To them, I would ask them to analyze their product for age and impurities. Like I told Sammy before I left ... I won't bother him anymore. I can find other bakeries that will give me a fresh product for my [$35.00]. Just because your in the "Hood" ... doesn't mean that you have to be slick like people in the "Hood". I would not recommend Sammy's Cheesecake for the reasons...
Read moreHello,
I’m looking to get in touch with the owner related to a recent experience I had at the store on Saturday, 10/15.
I thoroughly enjoy many of the desserts offered, and lately, have been coming by once a week to make a purchase. When I stopped by yesterday, there were quite a few people inside the store so I had to wait outside with a couple of other customers until things cleared out.
While waiting outside, there was a guy that approached me, walking very closely up on me, which caused some concern for me as I didn’t know this person. He ultimately asked if I could purchase him a meal from next door. Given that I am a Christian and the fact he was asking for food, I obliged and let him know I would order food on his behalf as soon as I got my desserts.
Of course he was waiting outside the door upon my exit and we went next door to the Italian restaurant to order his food. He was grateful and thanked me; however, he followed me back to my car after I left out of the restaurant and the situation just didn’t make me feel comfortable. He also made a comment about he would be on the look out for me again as if he frequents the shopping plaza.
This wasn’t the first time I had this kind of experience at the location. I came about a month or so ago on another Saturday afternoon. This time I had my 5 year old nephew and 7 year old niece with me. There was a guy (not sure if it was the same one) that followed us after we got our desserts to the car begging. We were able to get in to the car safely but the kids were a little shaken up.
I thoroughly enjoy patronizing the business (especially with it being black owned), and really love the desserts. I’ve also shared with my family and friends who enjoy them as well. But I’m a little hesitant to continue coming given the panhandlers that are out there. It just doesn’t make me feel safe as a female to be approached and followed in that manner. I would feel alot more comfortable if security...
