I would like to warn anyone considering buying the GROUPON to maybe call first about using it. My experience today was less than pleasant. I’ve purchased food from here without any coupons twice before and enjoyed my meals. The cheese grits with salmon were rich and delicious. I’ve also enjoyed the colossal burger which was juicy, cheesy, and big enough to share. The fried rice is superb and a real treat, well-balanced with protein and veggies and I would like to order it again. And the wings are reliably tasty with several options for sauces. I’m not partial to their trifles, as I think they’re cloyingly sweet, but I like that they have a few dessert options.
My complaint, however, is service-based. I purchased TWO Groupons (a decision I now sincerely regret) and found myself unable to use even one of them today. I tried a few different apps (Toast, GrubHub, and UberEats) and realized that I couldn’t use my order code in any of the apps. Their website doesn’t allow for direct-to-store orders, and so I called the restaurant three times between 1pm and 2:30pm (two calls going to a full voicemail) before someone eventually picked up the phone. Finally able to speak to someone, I politely explained that I had a Groupon and was unable to use any apps to place my order and asked if I could order by phone instead. The woman who answered told me that she doesn’t take orders over the phone, and that I’d have to order in-person. I acknowledged what she said, then proceeded to head for the restaurant.
Upon arrival, there were only about three other people there waiting to place an order with no staff visible. After waiting for a few minutes, a woman showed up and helped the lady before me. The two gentlemen ahead of me weren’t ready to order, so when the cashier was done assisting the lady ahead of me, I was able to approach her and explain that I had been the person on the phone with her a half hour prior inquiring about ordering with the Groupon. She then asked me what I would like to order. I proceeded to give her my order as she fiddled with several buttons on her screen, before looking confused and then informing me that she cannot place my order because she needs a manager’s authorization to enter the code, and no manager is present. She also proceeded to tell me that she normally works in the kitchen, and doesn’t normally work the register.
I then asked her why she didn’t tell me that I couldn’t use my Groupon while I was on the phone with her, rather than make me drive all this way. Then she backpedaled and tried to suggest that I never mentioned the Groupon on the phone, even though she had acknowledged that I was the person who called about the Groupon before.
Even though I was very upset, I politely thanked her for her time and excused myself, then politely left the restaurant.
I am very disappointed that a restaurant I actually like is so poorly managed. When a business offers a Groupon, it needs to have a plan in place for how to use them, and not just hope that the manager is around when those needs occur. It’s ridiculous to expect that my ability to order food is subject to the manager’s willingness to be there. Furthermore, they should mention that orders will have to be made IN PERSON somewhere in the fine print, or at least have someone sensible in the front of house capable of taking orders.
I find it wild that I’ve been able to order by phone from restaurants with a clear language barrier and still receive an accurate order with no problem, and yet, I cannot place an order by phone at this decent chain restaurant. I love to support restaurants in my community, and I will continue to do so- I will even support this one again (I still have to get rid of my Groupons now, after all), but I am very disappointed with this business, and will support better restaurant options in my...
Read moreThis place pops up on DoorDash a lot but I’m very hesitant about trying new spots especially here in Atlanta and through D/D, but when I passed by it in person I decided I’d try it out. First things first, customer service was so/so, being someone who works in CS as well I take it seriously. The young lady took my order while making conversation with others around us causing me to have to repeat my order 2-3x (i didn’t enjoy that) she was a sweet girl overall tho. The food was pricey but they give you a large portion! I ordered the Philly combo and the Down South Cuisine and 2 of those cake cup things. The wait time was about 30 mins or so, but I believe the food is cook to order so that was fine for me. The atmosphere was nice/cute and the menu was pretty extensive. I think there’s something for everybody.
The Philly wasn’t bad, it was a bit “oily” & over saturated but it was very flavorful (too much flavor for a Philly if you ask me lol), it was big, and was decent overall.
The Down South Cuisine was alright as well. I enjoyed the Collard Greens (they had a slight sweet tang to them that was new to me), the Mac and Cheese was a bit runny but didn’t taste bad, I substituted my yams for yellow rice which I regret (I did not like the yellow rice at all), the chicken was just okay, kinda salty honestly, I didn’t care for it.
I got the strawberry cheesecake & chocolate cake cups; I only tried the chocolate one. It’s pretty good.
Overall I would try them again and recommend others to try. Next time I’ll try the wings or something. I think they can do great things here with...
Read moreToday was my third time ordering from this restaurant. The first time I received my order but instead of the cabbage I ordered I was given greens but I didn't complain because my other food was delicious. The second time I ordered they waited until my dasher was already there to tell me that they ran out of turkey ribs. I was disappointed but I got my refund and went to bed hungry. I called the restaurant for 5 days to see if they had restocked on the turkey ribs and on today they FINALLY had them so I immediately ordered. When my food arrived it was NOT my food but 2 plates of jerk chicken. I'm allergic to chicken and I REALLY wanted the food I was waiting to order all week! I called the restaurant over 20 times and they never picked up so I went to DoorDash to make a complaint. The food is good but the customer service, wait times and lack of communication isn't worth it. As a fellow business owner it pained me to write this review but if Idont then they'll keep moving the same way! If people are spending their hard earned money at your place of business then do better. I waited an hour and a half to still be hungry and...
