Morning Star Bakery — Restaurant in East Providence

Before I begin I am Portuguese and I am very familiar with this plate and had it in many restaurants including Portugal. I figured I’d Try this place for lunch and asked for a small container of Codfish and potatoes, when I opened it and looked it was ALL potatoes I tried looking for the Codfish using my fork and found very little bit of flakes of fish. If I were to give a percentage ratio I’d say 95% Potatoes and maybe 5% Fish! When I asked a female staff member where the fish was she was very rude and confrontational telling me no one else complains, with that attitude I’m not surprised no one else complains, they’re probably afraid of her! “Soup Nazi” from TV show “Seinfeld”! Save your $16.00 and go somewhere else for lunch unless you want a small container...

I decided to stop into this bakery over the weekend which isn't in my neighborhood but decided to give it a try as there aren't many portgues bakery in Rhode Island. I purchased about $25 worth of food including a wrapped up piece of St Jorge cheese. Once I got home and opened the package I immediately realized the cheese was bad. Not only was it bad it was dated to expire in May we are going into August. Also it was turning blue. The smell was absolutely disgusting. I called the bakery two times and was told the owner would call back and they did not. They have a bunch of this cheese on the shelves all with their label covering the expiration date. I hate leaving a low review, nice employees, but the cupcakes frosting were hard and crunchy and cake was flavorless, cake roll same thing with flavorless cream, tiramisu had espresso grounds throughout the soak in the cake which you couldn't even chew without it stuck in between each bite also with flavorless mascarpone cream and a load of espresso on top, rice pudding with no flavor just very liquidy. custard cups pretty liquidy with a very crunchy pastry shell, and the corn bread was good, there looked to be a big variety of bread that looked good but so didn't the pastries. we love bakeries and sometimes try new ones, this is nothing against the ladies working there, just won't be going...
