Was my second time coming here, first time was okay so decided to give another try. Went here on a Friday night, around 6pm and the place was completely dead which should have been a warning of things to come. Ordered the 3 meat platter of brisket, sausage and pork ribs along with the Mac and cheese.
Woman behind the counter was nice and pleasant. The inside is also very nice and clean, well decorated but that is really where the positives end.
Mac and cheese, terrible. Nothing but mush and super greasy. It had absolutely no texture to it, felt like I was eating baby food. The entire container was a pool of grease and I couldn't even finish it. I poured as much of the grease out as I could but there was still more (see photo). The two pork ribs were just as bad, it was just bone and gristle - had very little edible meat on it.
Brisket was somewhat decent, a little dry and missing flavor. Didn't hate it, didn't love it. The one sausage link was the item worth anything on the plate, decent flavor and had a nice snap to the exterior. It came with onions and pickles which was nice but also came with two slices of generic store brand white bread which was pretty useless. Would have preferred corn bread or Texas toast or something.
Now we come to pricing. The 3 meat platter w/1 side was $23 but I was charged another $3 because I selected brisket bringing us to $26 without a drink. For example, a few days later I went to mission BBQ, I did their 3 meat sampler. I got two portions of brisket and the sausage. It was $20, no upcharge for brisket and also received 2 sausage links instead of 1. you also get corn bread but no side, even adding the mac and cheese side (which was far superior) it was another $3. The same thing here at farm boy would have been $29 with less food and greasy Mac and cheese.
Will not be returning, definitely not a good value. The whole time I just kept thinking, I really wish the Nafnaf that used to be here would come back.
Just go to mission...
Read moreWe always looking for new BBQ place when they come. This place is about an hour way but close to my partners work. He heard some great reviews for this place. We walked in and the people were very kind and sweet. You can tell they were very passionate about there place. We order platers with meat and sides. Of course every BBQ place we go get the corn bread, Mac and cheese and of course the meat. And this is when things went down hill a bit. I order Mac and cheese and pull pork. And was going to get another side and ordered the corn bread as extra. They did that with my partner. But came to me well he got the cornbread as his other side I am like no I am paying extra for it. I wanted try more of variety for them. I didn't want push it so I just let it go. Which kind left a sore taste in my mouth not going lie. Definitely a miscommunication with there ordering situation. I don't know why there needs be two people taking your orders one for the meat and one for sides because it's just a mess one person should handle that and pass it down line.
We Sat down tried there sauce. Which wasn't bad at all. The meat had really good taste to it. The Mac and cheese wasn't bad but wasn't over the moon good for the price you pay. Didn't have much of cheese flavor to it and was watery. My partners ribs was good and his sides were ok. Than we got to the corn bread. It was okay. They seemed to try and go an extra mile with it by adding honey crust and more. So they are trying something different which is cool but wasn't my thing but that's alright. The atmosphere is a basic BBQ look and enough seating to be comfortable and not crowded. If we are in the area we may try it again. I think they are still new and have a lot of way to grow. And has a positive future ahead with with small changes. Check it out for yourself and see how you like it. You may have a totally different experience. In the end the people seem amazing and kind and seem to...
Read moreStopped by for lunch with some friends on opening day (October 18th), and got the 3 meat platter with a side of coleslaw. Went with the brisket, pulled pork, and pork ribs. The head chef took my order with a smile, and hooked me up with an additional side for free (cheesy corn), and I'm really glad he did that. The corn was incredible! Service was also quick on their part, and effortless on my part.
Now the meat: I'm an amateur smoker and absolutely love just about all styles of BBQ. This was my first time having traditional Texas style BBQ, and I wasn't disappointed. I can appreciate the bigger focus on utilizing dry rubs rather than smothering the meats in sauces or glazes, and I found the ribs used to be quite flavorful. The brisket was nice and moist and juicy, and the pulled pork was flavorful and not dried out. The ribs were also good, and had a fair amount of meat on the bones. Also, the smoke ring on the brisket was a work of art.
Prices were pretty fair for a BBQ joint as well. The interior was also nicely decorated, and I loved seeing the massive smoker outside, with the smell of the burning wood circulating through the air. I will definitely be coming back for lunch (I thankfully work right around the corner). Can't wait to see this...
