We decided to try it because it's close to our house. Even though I really dislike when business owners/ family members post reviews of their own places, thought why not. We basically did a comparison to our usual orders from Cancun- Chile Colorado and Chicken Flautas (I can't remember what they're called here, they're flautas at Cancun- I'll check and update if I remember.) Overall the food is okay- it's not great. Let's start with chips and salsa. Chips, good, that one should be a given. However, the salsa I didn't really like. It's okay, but not as good as I'd expect. They also don't have whatever that other stuff you get at Cancun is- which I super like and was bummed because it was just the salsa and I didn't super like it. If you order it as takeout you also don't get the same volume of chips you get if you order from Cancun. Sauce for the Chile Colorado isn't as good, the spice isn't done as well and they didn't have the spicy/mild option you get at Cancun. Meat quality seemed fine, the rice isn't as good in my opinion though- less flavor and just not as good texture wise. As for the other dish, at Cancun you get 3 of them, here you only get two. There is guacamole, which is pretty decent, but for some reason instead of giving chopped tomatoes they give you a slice, and inside the tortilla the size variations in onions and peppers was crazy. One had fairly decently cut peppers and onions, the other had half a pepper and just huge pieces of onion. Not good for a uniform start to finish experience. Also they fell apart pretty easy, which also wasn't great. Staff is nice, drinks are reasonably priced, decent updates to the restaurant overall- except I still hate the color they painted it but that has nothing to do with the food- but we'll still be driving to one of the other restaurants unless we're walking or feeling particularly lazy. (That's why this is a comparison to Cancun for me, they're the next closest place, and we were doing a comparison to see if this was a place we'd switch to. We will not be doing that in the...
Read moreI finally managed to have the chance to check them out. I grew up eating some of the best Mexican food as I lived in a major city with friends and their families who immigrated from Mexico. So, I am always trying to find the best spot to remind me of home. This was the first and last time I'll go there. The plates were scorching hot but the food wasn't. Beans were like a bisqué, rice was dry and lacked flavor. My enchilada was hamburger and a little onion rolled in a cold corn tortilla. My tamales were not even edible! Tamales have been my favorite food all of my life! The waiter tried suggesting they were made that morning. That was a flat out lie! They are made then frozen! They then seem to microwave them. They were dry, cold, couldn't really even cut them with a knife. They say they have 🐔 inside. It was hamburger and such a small amount. I love masa and to me the meat is an accent but this is hardly the case. It actually made me sick requiring an urgent care visit for food poisoning. I'll stick with Cancun, tacos jaunita, and my overnight orders of tamales from a tamale shop...
Read moreThis place was turned in to a Mexican themed restaurant. Every thing is clean and the motif is fun and pleasing. I hesitated to review because I want to keep this little jewel a secret. But I cannot boast enough about the outside seating. There is a covered pergola so if you get caught outside eating you would not have to move to another table. They have a big screen tv outside for the sports fans. Speakers for music. The staff is attentive and not annoying. Lasty the food was really tasty.
Chicken was not over cooked and dry. And the portions were heafty for the price. The outside of the building is nicely taken care of. I would have to say out of all the Mexican restaurants in the Eau Claire area this is the best! Next time I will take pictures 📸
5/10/25 I would not recommend the friend icecream desert. Seems they fried it days earlier and froze it. It was not good. The tortilla that was molded into a bowl shape to hold the desert was not sweet just tasted like...
