Dick's Drive In — Restaurant in Eden

I was born in Eden, NC. My grandparents brought us here somewhat regularly, and, as a result, having "two cheeseburgers with mustard, chili, and slaw, along with a side of french fries and hush puppies" is my "Rosebud."

The food is ridiculously good; they are a true Drive-In if you want, and if you ever anywhere near EDEN, NC, you should try them.

11.02.18 I was back in my birthplace for my 79 y/o Mom's wedding, so I had to stop by Dick's Drive-In a couple of times.

First visit was a cheeseburger w/mustard, chili, slaw (which I've ordered since I was a child) and fries. Ridiculously good.

Second visit was inside the restaurant w/brother and his awesome family. Seeing that Dick's had won "best hot dog in town," I ordered that with "the works" and my usual cheeseburger w/mustard, chili, slaw and fries. Also got some hush puppies for the family to try and some slaw.

The hot dog was so vibrantly pink that my nieces recoiled but I devoured every bit of it and everything they delivered.

My nieces were skeptical, but said they ended up loving it, which brought me joy.

First and last time there...first impressions should leave an impact on you. My husband and i got there ordered our food and when it geta brought out to be paid for they say cash only. So we left to go get cash since there was no sign saying cash only. And when we get back the lady asks if we were back for our food. We should have just left then if thats the attitude to have. But we gave them the benifit of the doubt and got it. Well we had hoped it was still going to be nice and fresh but i guess that wasnt the case. The milkshake tasted more like vanilla then strawberry and was half melted the hot dogs was missing things on some and they looked like someone sat on them. The carolina bbq chicken sandwich was deffinalty nothing special tasted very dry and bland. The fries were hard and cold.... So my advice is for the next customer that dont have cash and has to leave you may want to take a loss on the food that had been made and try and make sure the food stays fresh til they return even tho with the comment oh yal are back for your food apperanlty people...

I normally don't knock stars off but this is the 3rd time I have picked up an order that ruined my appetite. I placed my order for the family and know that I asked for 3 hot dogs with mustard slaw and onions. The only way I will eat them. Get home and pass food out and my dogs are slathered in chill. I detest, hate, despise chill. It makes me sick to smell it. You can't scrape it off the flavor stays and it soaks into the buns. Yes most everyone else likes it, great. I am the odd person who doesn't. This is like I said the 3rd visit where my meal is ruined for me. I usually check and they usually get it right but the times I don't I get paid for not acting like a jerk for going through my togo order checking behind the should be competent staff. The rest of the food there is decent. 5 sides, 4 fries and 1 puppy...no ketchup at all... I also forgot to mention its cash only. No cards sorry. Yes I'm in a bad mood.
