My wife wanted Chinese for Christmas, and I decided to give this place a try. It was decided on a whim based on which restaurant was open.
I arrived explaining my situation that it was my first time here and then proceeded to ask what they had recommended, and the nice lady (who appeared to be the strong daughter of the family) suggested either the Hunan beef or the General Tso's Chicken.
This place serves a lot of food, and I think I accidently ordered too much. For roughly ten dollars, they serve 1 choice of meat and an equivalent portion of either fried or white rice. My wife wanted Hot & Sour Soup, Chow Mein, and an equivalent of Panda Express' Beijing Beef. I ordered Hot & Sour Soup (large), Combination Lo Mein, and Szechuan (I believe that this is Cantonese for Sichuan) Beef. She liked all three, and I will be coming here again.
I also ordered their Hunan Beef and General Tso's chicken. I remember watching a YouTube video a long time ago, that the General Tso's chicken is the equivalent of the Chinese-style American dish for non-Chinese. Being a banana myself (while my phenotype is Asian, I am a white person on the inside), this GT chicken became my guilty pleasure. The Hunan Beef, when compared to the Szechuan Beef, tasted sweeter according to my wife.
They had exceptional service, and now I know next time to order ahead. Thank you China 1 for giving a first timer like me a great Christmas dinner and making my...
Read moreAlways delicious, fresh, and more affordable than competing stores, with generous portions. Although they have many delicious options, my favorites are the 48. Sweet and Sour Chicken (battered and fried; comes with large portion of really good sweet and sour sauce), 12. Fried Cheese Wontons (best I've found in the city), 19. Wonton Egg Drop Soup (they mix the two soups and it is very filling, inexpensive, and delicious). Plus the ability to substitute lo mein noodles instead of white/fried rice as a side on any plate (it's a $1.95 upcharge, but the portion is huge). I highly recommend this amazing restaurant! I get take-out regularly by calling ahead (and they always get the order correct), and have also had it delivered...
Read moreSunday night takeout, the food was below average to kind of disgusting. Lo mein was greasy and the shrimp tasted dirty. The "beef" appeared low quality and mostly tasted fatty. Didn't eat the egg roll cuz it looked greasy and wasn't appetizing. General tsos was below average. Asked for regular fried rice and got something different pork fried rice. Service was also below average, man just stuck out his hand for payment. They charge & hand you the food thru a dirty window. The kitchen looked dirty and the place smells like it needs to be cleaned. Zero character or ambiance in the space that could not be called a...
