El Cometa — Restaurant in El Paso

It was my first time at this location, I arrived on a Sunday late afternoon and it was busy, it was difficult to find parking. I was carrying my one year old son in my arms and waiting to order, there was music playing not too loud, the woman taking my order by the name of ‘Veronica’ was very rude, unprofessional, and not helpful at all! She yelled at me asking me a question and would constantly roll her eyes at me, I’ll ask her a question and she’ll make me feel stupid for asking. She also didn’t offer the complimentary tortilla chips, I told her thank you once I got my receipt after paying and she didn’t say anything or didn’t guide me on what to do while I wait for my order to go, I was wondering where can I sit, are they calling me by a number and she didn’t give me anything or tell me anything, she was on the phone for the longest time and I was right in front of her after paying and after like 10 minutes of me waiting she tells me, “you can get salsa while you’re waiting” and I told her, “ohhh okay it’s because you didn’t tell me anything and it’s my first time here” and she just laughed… While I was getting salsas, a very friendly and helpful man by the name of ‘Omar’ helped me and offered me the complimentary chips without me asking, took our food to the car, and if it wasn’t for him, he wouldn’t had turned my smile upside down and this review would’ve been a 1 star instead of a 3 star overall. He deserves a raise, very hardworking man that goes above and beyond to make customers happy, a real people person. El Cometa you need to hire more people like Omar!! The food tasted great, the only thing is I noticed some of the veggies look old, my tomato and my avocado looked old, once I got home I had to drive back to the store for some avocado since the one I got was all black and I couldn’t even imagine eating that. El Cometa should use fresh, good vegetables and ingredients. Also, another great option in the salsa bar to-go would be to add little bags for the salsas instead of getting so many tiny cups, the Mexican taco places give you little plastic bags and are much more convenient. I live right around the corner. I usually go through the drive thru. It’s been a few instances where I’ve got the same lady at the drive thru. The menu screen is too big and during the day it’s really hard to read the screen through the sun glare. She really needs an attitude adjustment. She sounds annoyed and tries to hurry me to order. Today there was no one behind me. I asked her to wait a few times. Then when I was ready to order she answered annoyed and told me to wait. Customer service is not for her. She needs to go do something else. I left and didn’t order anything. I’m not going back, it’s been a few times within the last 4 months. I usually go by myself and today I needed to order something for my 5 yr old. It took me not even 3 minutes. Not friendly at all! The food is great! Get employees that are happy...

Today was our first visit with these owners. The service was amazing. I was impressed with how clean the place is. The menu is a bit limited compared to most Mexican restaurants, but the food was very good. It was a great touch that the manager came and asked how everything was at the end of our meal. I travel with a service dog, and was asked for her credentials. She wasn't wearing her vest, but was wearing a service dog tag. I understand some people may not recognize it, so had no problem with it. Once they were sure she was a service dog, no pronouns with her being there. COVID notes: You must have a mask to enter.
