Came to New Clock Restaurant for lunch with my husband. He had previously visited their establishment with his co-workers and said their food was good so I was down to try them out as well! They definitely give off that old diner type of vibe. We must have arrived at a non-peak time because there was no one there. But I’m not complaining since we were seated right away.
Service was decent. Our waitress came around to get our order but was pretty much non-existent other than that.
I ordered the combo #2 which came with a taco, enchilada and Chile relleno. They also brought out free chips and salsa! I didn’t really expect much from them, I’ll say the salsa definitely tasted like it was from a jar and the chips were cold. But I didn’t mind since it was free anyways. As for the meal, I was a bit disappointed. I’ve never had Chile relleno before so I don’t know if my expectations were off but it didn’t taste too good. The whole plate kind of lacked in flavor. It could have benefited from a bit of salt. Everything was, for the most part, bland. I had to add the salsa onto my dish to get some flavor into it.
I do realize that maybe they don’t specialize in Mexican cuisine and I should have just ordered a breakfast item. If I do come back to give them a second try I’d just avoid the Mexican food items on their menu and go straight for...
Read moreSaw it very early one morning as we were looking for a Dunkin Donuts. I decided that we absolutely had to try it based on the name & look of it! Food was good and in spite of many posts about bad service, our waitress was really good. I did see the waitress with the hat/ponytail that everyone was complaining about.
It's an older restaurant, but it's clean & friendly feeling. We got there before the crowd, which was a really good thing! Coffee was good and the serving portions were huge! My son had chilaquilles and I had machaca. Both were good enough to order again. I had to take half back to the hotel because it was so much! My son cleaned his plate! The one thing I didn't like was the queso that came with my dish. I asked for it on the side and was glad I did. It was very thin, more like a soup that had some cheese melting in it. It tasted oddly sweet to me, which I found very off putting. It did have lots of chopped chiles in it, which my son loved & scooped out for his plate. I would recommend getting any queso on the side & see what you think before adding it. I would have hated my dish had the "queso" been on it already.
I would definitely come back, next time I drive to El Paso and recommend coming here - just get there...
Read moreThe food was very good, is a mix of TexMex and New Mexican, but not real Mexican, maybe authentic to this area, but again is not 100% mexican. Still, the food tasted great, and the portions were good, just a little overpriced. Not all plates include tortillas. Once you order the food, the waiting time is short. They have Monday thru Friday specials, but you have to have a drink, and there are no refills on it. So, it's not much of a saving. The distribution of seating is a little bit odd. Maybe they would rather accomodate for big groups on one side with tables for 8, and the other, which is the one that face the street, have the booth seating, and the sun will burn you because the windows don't have any blinds to block it. The waitress was OK, but never came to refill our drinks until we were done. They play Mexican music, and songs are just random, just not a special genre. The lack of a star is because outside at the entrance, there is 2-3 homeless people begging and they will get upset if they don't get money, spit at people as well and almost block your entrance to beg. Hanging around half naked and drugged as well. Seems like management doesn't do anything about the homeless...
