Spent a night of a multi-day road trip in El Reno to randomly discover that El Reno was the birthplace of the Oklahoma Onion Smash burger. So to stop in this town and have it be the birthplace of my favorite burger was pretty neat! Knowing what I know about El Reno now, I would have planned more time in El Reno! Robert’s from the outside looks like tiny a hole in the wall kind of place, along Route 66. Reading a little bit turns out they are the oldest still operating Oklahoma Onion Smash burger place around so a true American Icon at that! The burger I was served was under seasoned (I didn’t see anything go on to my burger, or any cooked after mine) I’m sure just a little salt would have made this burger truly delicious. The Fries were also unseasoned but since they were fresh out of the oil that problem was easily solved, and they were great! Overall, Robert’s was not my Favorite burger I had while I was in El Reno, but worth a visit anyway! To be able to eat at the Oldest Running Oklahoma Smash burger joint was well worth my visit! I would probably go back here if I was in town anyway!

Roberts is advertised as the oldest onion burger restaurant in El Reno, so we chose it over the other restaurants. If you are one who enjoys non descript, low key diners, you will enjoy eating here as much as we did. There are no booths or tables, only diner bar seating. A great place to see your burger getting cooked up with onions on top and smashed flat together. Sitting there you can just feel the character of a long time eatery. Probably 10 to 12 stools around the bar. The prices are very reasonable this day and age, and the fries are excellent. I think I prefer my onions grilled and placed on top of the burger, but the burger itself was good. A small menu, burgers and hotdogs to my recollection. Only a menu board on the wall. No paper menus. More charm. A true hole in the wall, not for slack wearer's diner. Stop by and enjoy along with previous decades of customers.

So impressed…if you are looking for a “old school throwback” hamburger diner, this is it. 3 very young men behind the counter, very friendly. I was immediately asked if I had been there before, I hadn’t, and was told that the chili and coleslaw were particularly good. As I was trying to decide what to order, he served me a “sample” of the chili and coleslaw (who does that anymore ?). Both were very good, I even bought a cup of chili to go. The place is counter only, about 14-15 stools. Very old flat top griddle, and shows plenty of use. I asked for crispy fries and shown the fry basket, for my approval, before serving the fries. The cheeseburger was very good, onion smash burger style. If you are looking for “down home”, this is it. Recommended.

UPDATE- Thank you for replying! But we came more than 45 minutes away from where we live to come eat there, we couldn't take it to go and eat at home. :/ WAY TOO SMOKEY- CAN NOT BREATHE!!!!!!!! EVEN IF YOU DON'T HAVE BREATHING PROBLEMS, IT WILL GET TO YOU. Imagine a house fire, it's like THAT kind of smoke and that's what it does to your lungs, not cigarette. If they left the door open that you walk through, it may not be AS smokey, but it was so bad that we ALL were having a hard time breathing, even a lady who was getting a to go order said that's why they get it to go. It is VERY small, like 10 people, because there's only like 10 stools, so that's probably why it's SO smokey, but they need to offer more outdoor tables than just ONE picnic table! The burgers were okay and the chili dogs- but Sids or the old Johnnies is better flavor though. We had been to the old Johnnies before it expanded and it was NEVER like that to where you couldn't breathe and it was tiny tiny just like this place, so maybe it's their...

First time here, we usually go to Johnny's. Sitting inside was impossible due to the amount of smoke coming from the grill. Regular customers told us it's always that way and people with lung issues know not to go there. Thank goodness there was a rickety picnic table outside and the weather was nice. The food didn't seem as good as Johnny's even tho we've always heard it was the same. Our first server was horrible, young and in the wrong line of business...no customer service skills...after we moved outside the server was a different young girl who was a lot better, the only other employee was a young man cooking. Looked as tho the place was being run by barely 16 year olds. Being outside we could see inside the kitchen area thru the open back? door, watched the first rude server drop a big tube of hamburger meat in the floor, pick it up, put it in a tub and take the plastic off and proceed to mess with the bare meat in the same tub she just put it in off the dirty floor. No, we...
