Canadian County Museum — Attraction in El Reno

November 2024 This is Mr. David speaking: We had planned on spending a half hour at the Canadian County Historical Museum by Route 66 and I-40. As it were, it turned out to be a full two hours,--and for good reasons. The ladies were perfectly delightful, and like the gentlemen, everyone is personally knowledgeable as to all exhibits which are beautifully presented on Facebook. Without reserve, the ladies and gentlemen generously shared personal insights through the fabulous museum, school house, chapel, canteen, hotel, barn & saloon, jailhouse, Rock Island caboose, General Sherman's base of operations, etc. We had traversed all of Oklahoma City, but for true American history, the Canadian County Historical Museum...

Another awesome local history museum. This museum is completely run off donations and volunteers, so it is free to visit. Normally, they have a tram you can buy tickets to ride, but unfortunately it wasn't available when we went. Still an awesome museum. We love visiting these types of museums on our travels. The ladies who were running it the day we were there were super sweet and helpful. I definitely recommend...

Totally under rated and a hidden historical gem, open Wednesday thru Saturday. Artifacts going back 150 years and more. If you are a historian and time traveler definitely set aside two or three hours to enjoy. Volunteers are happy to share what they know. American history goes back to civil and American Indian wars.
