If been wanting to go to Whittle's for over a year, primarily to try their renowned pork tenderloin sandwich. I was not a bit disappointed, as they brought out our sandwiches, after we had a delightful basket of their fried pickles, a treat my son mentioned, and we tried, a bit over a year ago ourselves.
But these were perfectly coated, fresh, hot, and delicious. They came with Ranch dressing for dipping, which made for a nice, contrasting flavor. The pickles also had a spicy bite to go with that tang.
Whittle's was celebrating their 10th Anniversary, and the place was quite busy, and we had no problems getting a seat. We were served by kids, and adults, who were all friendly and doing a fine job. I like to see kids learning in a family business, they were doing an impressive job.
We chose soft drinks to go with the meal, Dr Pepper and the diet variety of the same.
The sandwiches arrived, with the sides, tater tots for me, fries for my son, Greg, which were neatly tucked beneath the tenderloin, keeping them hot and toasty. I took pics, then promptly sawed the sandwich in two, and took a hearty bite. Delicious! The breading was light, almost "fluffy," with the tender pork having a perfect bite, quite delicious. We ordered with lettuce, pickles zonions, and tomatoes, no sauces except a little mayo. The veggies were fresh, and make a nice addition to the sandwich. The tots were perfectly done, crisp and light.
Overall, I enjoyed the experience. We took to-go boxes home with substantial leftovers. My tenderloin became two sandwiches at dinner after a quick reheat in my air fryer at home. It was well-worth the price, and made me glad we came.
Whittle's has substantial seating, a decent jukebox, and Mizzou football was on the TVs over the bar. There are several dining areas, they serve a variety of drinks, and even a Missouri Lottery machine just past the bar.
I recommend them, there is a substantial menu with plenty of choices of other things. They offered several of their apps at half price for their anniversary special. I will be back, and many thanks to the Whittle's Pub and Grub crew for...
Read moreWe had business down Eldon way, but I like to mix business with pleasure, and, so, after a year or more of patience, I finally got to got to Whittle's, just in time for their 10th Anniversary celebration. I found out about them from a Facebook post, saw that giant tenderloin sandwich, and put them on my short list of places to go.
Stopped in and took a seat, quickly, a youngster brought over a menu, followed shortly by a waiter taking our drink order, Pepsi products, in my case, Diet Dr Pepper, with Dr Pepper for my son. A waitress took our orders for an appetizer, the fried pickles, and our entrées, the Pork tenderloin sandwiches, one with fries, the other with tater tots.
The pickles arrived. We like fried pickles, and these were not disappointing at all. Perfectly coated and fried to a beautiful golden brown, with a snap of a bite that is a delight. They were slightly spicy, with a hearty burn. The Ranch dressing for a dip was a nice touch, really enjoyed them.
Then, the sandwiches arrive. Light, fluffy, crisply browned, and huge tenderloins, with nice spices, a treat to crunch, easily the best breaded and fried tenderloin I've had outside of Indiana, where I first tried one. The tots/fies were covered by the loin, keeping them hot and fresh. Those, too, were perfectly crisped.
The sandwich is served on a rather miniscule bun, but, it too is really a counterpoint in the scheme of things. There were vegetable toppings, which were actually beneath the meat. Long cut ridged pickles, a scattering of lettuce, onions, and a couple of tomatoes that went well with the sandwich, overall.
The service was very good, we were well taken care of. The size of the location is impressive, with two adjoining buildings serving as their pub space. A jukebox was banging out some decent music, there was Mizzou college football on the big screens over the bar. The experience was nice, and we do plan to return again. I can heartily recommend eating at Whittle's...
Read moreGiving the 3 star rating based on service. The food was very good. This was bike week at Lake of the Ozarks and the restaurant was busy. We chose to dine on the bar side of the restaurant instead of the family side. Unfortunately, the place was staffed with only 1 person to handle the bar plus all of the tables. There were over 25 people in the place when we came in and we took the last available table. The server/bartender did acknowledge that we were there and said it would be about 15 minutes before she could get to us. She was kind but you could tell that she was overwhelmed. We remained patient and eventually placed our drink and food orders. The drinks came out about 5 minutes after placing the order. The food came out about 15 to 20 minutes after the drinks. I ordered the tenderloin sandwich and it is as advertised - about the size of a 12 inch pizza! The sandwich was hot and tasty Eventually, additional staff came over to the bar side of the restaurant to assist the server/bartender and that seemed to help relieve the backlog on orders. I will give them a pass and would come back again. I understand that in today's world, it is hard to get good help in the food industry. I hope that they can attract some help as the...
