Folklore is, hands down, a 5* experience on a global level. Food and espresso quality is very high. I'd definitely say it is a laid back environment -- if you need an early morning grab and run, maybe order ahead online!
**The espresso: Most importantly, their espresso roast is fantastic and they use high quality espresso machines. It is acidic in flavor, yet balanced w/ a pleasantly bitter backbone.
**The baristas: They offer the core traditional espresso drinks AND actually know how to make them (Macchiato and Cortado being out favorites)
**The food: From my understanding, the ingredients are high quality and/or locally sources. Build your own breakfast bagel is my go to (price and flavor), but I can also vouch for the other sandwiches being delicious as well! I think the prices went up recently, but it's still not terrible once you factor in quality and convenience.
**The pastries: absolutely nail it every time. Not too sweet and good ingredients. They taste and look homemade, and I mean that in a good way! Honestly, they are so much better than the bakery next door. Their blueberry lemon scone is S++ tier, you have to try it! Coffee cake is also really really good!
**Environment: Really cool building and diverse seating options (chair/high top/couch/outdoors). Tables are spaced out enough that you can have a private conversation or work remotely. Wifi is good, just ask for the password when you order. Really cool, rotating arts and crafts for sale -- adds to the atmosphere. VERY laidback.
**Staff: really friendly staff, and always 1-2 knowledgeable employees working at all times. Sometimes they are backed up or a new employee might not understand everything. Just be patient and they'll help you out -- never had a bad experience! Also see the owner there pretty often, which definitely helps with quality control.
Overall, a fantastic place! We come here almost every weekend. This is a 3rd wave (4th maybe?) coffee establishment. A lot of the negative reviews seem to be from people that are upset it isn't Dunkin or Starbucks... You can...
Read moreI’ve been here a few times over the years, just wanting to give it another chance again and I always regret it. No matter what sandwich I’ve ordered, it has been dry and incredibly hard. I remember getting one listed as having cheese on it and once I got my sandwich (the bread to content ratio was like 6:1), I removed the cheese and smacked it against my plate and it shattered like glass. I asked for something else because that wasn’t edible and was treated like I was a horrible person for not loving it. I give 2 stars for service though, because if you’ve ever looked at local job listings, these people are so grossly underpaid. I’d mentally and emotionally check out too, if I was being paid $9/hr. For $9/hr you couldn’t get anyone I know to care about the quality of their work in any aspect. McDonald’s wants their employees to care more about their job performance than this place. If you go inside, it’s quaint and inviting, but you quickly realize that it reeks of gentrified nonsense. Atmosphere was the main concern here and quality took such a backseat that it’s not even on the same bus. If you want a sandwich that not only tastes better, but is also cheaper, go to Subway. They’ll treat you...
Read moreI'm not sure why this place has so many good reviews. The coffee and the service are both terrible. When I went here I was excited to find a good local coffee place that I could have breakfast at. When I walked in their first thing I noticed was that the music was too loud and there were children running around screaming (not what I look for in a coffee house). When I got up to the counter I ordered a red eye and a bagel with cream cheese, paid and sat down. It took just over 5 minutes for them to make my coffee. The coffee was bitter, tasted burnt and was watered down. I can honestly say that it was worse than Sheetz, Turkey Hill, Wawa or McDonalds coffee. I waited another 15 minutes for my bagel but it never came.
I can only guess that the good reviews for this place are from friends of the employees and younger kids who don't know what a good coffee house is. I will never go back to this place and would have given it "0" stars if that...
