Although the waitress was nice and the meal tasty, I am astonished at my overall experience. I have a moderate allergy to all things milk protein. It was quite a challenge to find something on the menu that I could eat (which is not uncommon when dining out with friends but I manage well.) There was an asian based Ahi tuna salad with a Wasabi sauce. I asked the waitress if there was ANY dairy products in this dish. I was very specific about my milk, butter, milk protein allergy, etc. and asked her to double-check with the kitchen. She said that she would write it on the ticket and would be very careful to bring this to the kitchen's attention. She did ask if I had an egg allergy which I stated no. She ended up bringing me the dish, and I begin to eat the salad dipping the Ahi Tuna in the Wasabi sauce which by my assumption (I should not have assumed) was a mayonnaise-based dressing since she had asked me about an egg allergy and should have known not to serve anything with dairy on the plate. About 15 minutes into eating this dish, my stomach started to swell, my chin began to itch with mild hives, I got the foggy headed feeling and joint aches familiar to me. I asked her again if there had been any dairy in the dish. She asked if I was alright and I said no, that I was not feeling right. At that point she ran to the kitchen and came back to tell me that the Wasabi sauce had cream in it. She was very apologetic. What's was the most distressing part of the whole experience is that when the owner came out, instead of just simply apologizing for the mishap she proceeded to tell me that I should not have ordered from the menu, admitted that the dish had buttermilk, yet proceeded to tell me how many of the products are outsourced and therefore she could not know at any given time all the ingredients, and essentially blameshifted the kitchen's mishap unto me, the guest. Instead of taking ownership and responsibility for her kitchen's error, she essentially added insult to injury by calling me out on ordering the dish, despite the waitress writing about the allergy on the ticket. I've worked in food services and the guest I was with actually has managed many kitchens and we both agree that the responsibility of the owner/manager is to take ownership of any kitchen errors and provide customer service that does not victimize a diner. Apologizing yet shifting responsibility for the mistake is not an apology. The fact that anyone would serve a dish without double-checking after their patron and in turn the waitress alerted them of an allergy is irresponsible and downright dangerous. They did comp my plate, and I did leave a tip to the waitress as courtesy, but I will never visit again and would invite others to be wary of patronizing this place if they have...
Read moreWaddled into Lucky Duck Bar and Grille in Elizabethtown, PA, and let me tell ya, this place ain't no lame duck! It's got more charm than Penguin's feathered umbrella, though thankfully no rubber duckies in sight.
This historic haunt is beloved by the locals, and for good reason. Their outdoor deck is a shady oasis perfect for a Dark Knight seeking refuge from the sun, with a babbling creek and leafy trees creating a relaxing atmosphere.
Now, let's dive into the grub. The Philly Cheesesteak (pictured), while good and tasty, it wasn't what it's quacked up to be. This Philly native has high standards. It was tasty, but value-wids, not comparable to a Philly jawn while still paying the Philly price. I'd call it an E-town cheesesteak instead, a bit smaller and on a hot-dog-style roll. But those chips? Diefenbach's, I reckon? A definite win!
But fear not, there's more to this menu than meets the eye. The Raspberry Twice Grilled Cheese (pictured) was a surprising hit, a big bang for your buck that'll fill you up faster than the Batmobile on afterburner. Robin and I could've easily split this one and still been satisfied!
All in all, Lucky Duck is a solid choice for a taste adventure in E-town. While the cheesesteak didn't quite make a splash, the rest of the menu more than made up for it. So if you're in the area, don't duck out on this opportunity – you might just find yourself quacking about...
Read moreLocated in the middle of Elizabethtown, PA, Lucky Ducks Bar and Grille is a nice 18th century building, the menu is varied and everything sounded like it would be pretty good, prices can be a little high but most restaurants are, with entree's being priced on average $9.99 and up. I ended up ordering the "Fire Burger" and while it was a very tasty burger (& prepared medium well, as instructed), personally I thought it was lacking in the "fire" department, although I am a spicy food aficionado, so maybe that had something to do with it. The shoestring fries included with the meal were very good, prepared perfectly, and also included the standard pickle spear on side. Overall I was very satisfied with my meal, and would return again, although I may need to start bringing my own Hot Sauce to restaurants from now on, or ask for some extra heat! I also ordered a pint of Tröegs Perpetual IPA, which ran at $5, which while a little steep, it surprisingly was towards the cheaper end of their beers on draft, might be worth visiting when they have a happy hour special if you're looking to drink more than one or two brews. Waitress that sat and served us was friendly and professional, which is always a plus. Overall a solid 4 ½* experience for my first time visiting Lucky Ducks Bar and Grille. I would recommend checking it out for a nice meal out, if you find yourself in or near...
