El Maguey Grill — Restaurant in Elkhart

It was my first time with a group of friends. They heard good views about this place. In my opinion the food was not all that great. My order was a grilled steak with some shrimp. Most of my friends ordered it. So I wanted to try it. Most of them got there dishes and it looked so good. The presentation was nice. It was well combined steak and shrimp. I couldn't wait for my dish. When it came it just had steak but no shrimp. I was not to upset. When I told the waitress that I wanted the dish that my other friends had. She was really apologetic and sent it back. When she brought it back I still was not pleased. It was still a bunch of steak and three little sad pieces of shrimp. I just left it the way it was. Since they mess up twice. I was thinking the food must taste good. WRONG! Like I said before the presentation was nice but the food had no favor. I was very upset and disappointed at the same time. 😕 For price at least make the food taste good. Smh! I do not feel the same about the rest of the reviewers. Maybe they like food with no favor. But in my opinion that food had no favor they did not even it salt. If they would have put salt I would have been a little pleased. The reason why I am only giving it three stars. My family and I stopped by at around 3pm today and most of the food was good. I ordered my child a kids chicken fingers and fry plate the fries tasted as if they were old and were from this morning but got re-fried again for some reason. They did exchange them but they came back tasting the same. The tenders were disgusting and dry all the way. I ordered a plate with steak chorizo chicken rice and beans, everything was amazing except the chicken had absolutely no flavor to it. Then to top it all off as I get ready to leave, I use their restroom. I’m using it and as the person in the second stall flushes the toilet, EVERYTHING that was in the toilet I was using splashes out and splashes ALL OVER ME AND MY CLOTHES!!! I was disgusted, but I was more disgusted with the managers nonchalant attitude about it. He said as he shrugged, “Well I just had someone go unclog that restroom so I don’t understand why that happened.” He didn’t even bother to offer me a simple apology or show some kind of sympathy or embarrassment about what happened in the restaurant he was supposed to be managing. I think this place used to be good but is has gone severely downhill. As Gen Z would say, the food was just mid. Most everything was bland, lacking flavor and salt. I meant to order their chunky guac which is about $10.5 and instead I ordered creamy which was $4. The creamy guac definitely is not made fresh and likely comes out of a bag. I then ordered vegetarian option D or B with a bean burrito and cheese something or other. Everything was bland, not even the cheese saved it. I give 3 stars because it’s not like anything terrible happened like bad service or food poisoning. But the food is not good. Additionally, I have heard stories and read recent reviews that very small sides (sour cream, cheese, etc) they are charging $2.5 for. Whereas they used to be free or a small surcharge like 50 cents.
